Long Weekend

This long weekend/ holiday weekend is a breath of fresh air to the midterm demands.

As soon as I return, a lot of work will be waiting, including two exams (to be given), papers (to be checked) and other tasks to be taken cared of. It's come to a point that this weekend has been the chance for me to check all my online accounts after almost half a year of leaving them idle. And, I just realized that 4 of them are not even active sites anymore! Ironically, despite the number of things I can update my blog with, I've been enjoying reading other posts rather than contributing my own. For the moment, here are some things I want to share though. :)

1. New art inspiration: Alphonse Mucha Last Friday, I had found a book on Art Noveau. Although, I still have to read up to understand the whole movement/ technique, one particular artist's work caught my eye. This was Alphonse Mucha. Here are some of my favorites from his work (images from www.abcgallery.com) :

 "Zodiac"

"Rose" from The Flowers series

"Spring" from The Seasons Series

2. Movie Date Ever since I've been teaching film class this semester, I've promised myself that I should see at least 1 film over the weekend. I can just imagine that some people actually wish they could make such a promise for the sake of improving their work, or that they see this as a leisurely activity-- a normal weekend activity rather than a resolution. As for myself, I remember promising myself when I had taken film class in my sophomore year that I would do exactly that for the sake of writing reviews and critiques. But, as time went on, other priorities (also in the field of writing) took its place until I forgot to do that altogether. Well, I realize that now I'm working, I should really make time to revive this resolution. At the same time, it might actually help my improve my teaching skills.

Anyway, so far, the films I've been able to watch outside of class, and not all necessarily for film appreciation, are: "The Ugly Truth" "The Smurfs" "Red Cliff" (parts 1 &2), "Schindler's List", "Seven" / "Se7en", and "Life is Beautiful" A number of them, I had already viewed before. But watching them again, I realized how much I had missed out or misunderstood because I had not really paid attention. Film class had really changed my attitude towards film viewing... I can even say that it's for that reason that I've been shying away from the more contemporary movies these past years.

Still on my list of to-watch movies are "Singing in the Rain", "The Birds", "Shogun"... and a couple more which I can't seem to remember at the moment. o_o;

3. New music, please Because of the long weekend, I've been able to take note of the songs I've been wanting to download since the first sem began. For one, I'm listening now to Panic! At the Disco's new album, "Vices and Virtues", and have been sufficiently LSS'd with "Ready to Go", as well as "Trade Mistakes".

Also, I've been thinking about buying a new MP3 player, so that I can let go of my old one and give it to my younger sister who's starting to develop her own taste in music. But well, can't really decide what kind of mp3 player I really want. Philips seems to have newer models which seem worth a try, since the features seem to be worth the price too.

That's it for now! Any suggestions for mp3 players and/or good films? :)
