The weather's been horrible these past weeks.
Last week, classes were suspended by 12 nn because of the downpour. I was glad to hear that work was going to be suspended by 1:30; I could make it in time to hitch with my dad who was headed home from Makati instead of waiting for the shuttles to begin their trips around 3.
Because of the traffic, though, I got home three hours later anyway. I fell asleep and woke at 7 pm. After that, I couldn't fall asleep until 4 am. Thankfully, classes were suspended the following day because of the rain, and so I didn't have to panic about how to get to work in case I overslept.
Ever since then, I've been disoriented with the time and the tasks I have to accomplish. It didn't help either that I had been having waking dreams, for lack of a better term. I would wake up, go about with getting ready for the day, only to wake up again and realize that I was still dreaming. It's annoying and unsettling that it's been happening more often since last Tuesday.
Yesterday, classes were suspended again because of the rains. I'm not as disoriented anymore, though sometimes it still feels surreal to find myself walking around campus and realizing that I have so many things to do.
Back when I was a student, I always wondered why we would have classes at this time of the year. Why is it so difficult to change having classes during the rainy season, considering how many meetings could be wasted because class would be suspended? Why not move classes to September instead?
Every year, it's the same thing. The same, constant decision to start classes during June and to have to prepare for the rainy days. That, and the fact that students are constantly just waiting for announcements on class suspension, thus being another distraction once they are in school. It's become a fixed schedule, that planners for students would even include this warning during the June to August months: "don't forget to bring an umbrella!" Which becomes hardly useful when a student is confronted with roads blocked by floods.
It's no joke having to go through heavy traffic caused by passing rains. More than that, it's an even annoying reason to be wasting time, while simply trying to get home and work or school.
Or maybe, I should really find ways to make the distance nearer between my workplace and home.
