ARCTIC MONKEYS CONCERT EPIC PICSPAM

Dec 09, 2009 18:30

It's been two years since I've seen them last, this is my third time seeing them, and holy shit it was fucking awesome:

ARCTIC MONKEY'S CONCERT: DECEMBER 8, 2009 | Washington DC

Outfit for the occasion. I got it the day before at a Vintage store in Georgetown for half off. I, er, like it. A lot.

THE TICKET

Maiah, who met me at her fab spot in line, very close to the front (the line was SO long). I'm glad she got there super early because my final ended an hour before doors opened. This foresight allowed us to be right at the fucking barricade ♥

Lolz sorta lamesuace photo of me. I love that jacket but I wish I wasn't wearing it. Unfortunately not much of an option when weather is in the 30s. So ready to go back to home LA for break. Anyway, girl on the left is named Emily and we befriended her at the show. Lolz idk about the other people behind me.

MATT'S DRUMS. AGILE BEAST INDEED.

People's heads? Might I mention that this was just when we came in and that this was a show that sold out in less than an hour. The place was PACKED. I thought it was a bit of a ~sausage fest~ when I first got there but there were a good amount of girls too.

Oh hay.

Girl with the red lipstick: her name is Sofia who I befriended after the show. Er, let's see, she's from London and is a BEAST at getting stuff from the stage. She left the show with a set list and two picks. Jealous but I gotta give her props.

Er yeah.

Opening band: Screaming Females. They're from New Jersey and the lead singer is one badass guitar player, I must say. We need more badass chicks on guitars. She had a bit of Karen O in her voice when she wasn't, literally, screaming. Hello there, namesake.

Lolz the drummer was in his own world drinking on stage.

Anticipation FOR THE BEAST.

AND HERE THEY ARE! Strut~ First song: Dance Little Liar (I'm like 95% positive). They were just fantastic, I cannot emphasize this enough, guys. FANTASTIC. Some woman next to me complained about the sound but I thought it was fine.

I thought this came out pretty cool looking even though it was obviously not intentional

Are you there, God? It's me, Alex fucking Turner.

~Diva~

I love this shot.

Ass Arse (more appropriate for this post?) shot. Not necessarily intentional but I'm not complaining.

I liked Jamie's guitar strap: OWLS! Yer a wizard, Jamie.

Looks like Matt is taking a breather? You deserve it bb.

Shitty photo but I thought the stance was fucking hilarious. It may have been around the time that he was gyrating his hips (which he did a lot of during "Potion Approaching". It was...amusing.

Saw Alex's stomach more than once last night and all I have to say is that it is one cute piece of pasty English flesh. Ooer.

Lolz, Sofia swooning. Weren't we all!

IDK.

Heh, Alex and Nick.

After the encore they played a couple more songs and ended with 505, of course. I really think that that's their trademark show ending song now? And if not, it should be. That song is BRILLIANT live. Anyway as it ended they all went off the stage at diff times: Alex first, then Matt, then Nick, then Jamie.

Also, the set list was phenomenal. A REALLY good mix of songs from all their albums, not just Humbug:

Courtesy of Sofia ♥

I totally went crazy when they played "Still Take You Home" and "View from the Afternoon" and "Pretty Visitors" (my favorite from their new album). I wish they played "Old Yellow Bricks" though :( Then again, I also wish that there wasn't a little group of fucking teenyboppers behind me during the concert too.

After that Maiah, Emily, and I rushed out to go wait around outside by where we thought they'd come out from after the show. It was raining and freezing btw >_< Anyway, Emily had to leave to catch the metro back to American University before it closed and Maiah got picked up so I was left with some other folks waiting around and Sofia (who really likes my style and say's it's v. English. I'm all, "er I watch English tv shows?" XD). There was a lot of confusion because there were TWO tour buses: one on the front and one on the side of the 9:30 club. The one at the front looked nicer but after a long ass time we finally found out that it was the roadie's bus. It made sense though because all the musical instruments and gear was being loaded on the bus at the side. All we knew for sure was that they were in the basement drinking lolz. Anyway, the show ended around 11:00 pm and after mingling with the other stragglers for an hour and a half, Nick finally came out THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR at around 11:30:

Nice chest hair bb.

Jamie came out a little bit after and some girl who was with her friend (WHO WAS BLACK BTW and named Claudette or Claudia or something. I was like, "Lolz so I played the 'find a negro at the concert' game and didn't see you HELLO!" She lol'd) SCREAMED. I always figured that Jamie was shy as hell and this pretty much confirmed it.

He looked very O_O as he dragged his suitcases out and towards the bus. He really just wanted to bounce and it was sorta awkward but he did sign some stuff. I think Sofia was the only one to get a photo with him (England advantage, I say) and apparently Claudette said that he was also a bit reclusive after a show she went to in Phili. She thinks he's just conceited or something idk he just looked shy :\

AND THEN. THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN, BEFORE 1:00 AM AS ALL OF OUR EXTREMITIES WERE ABOUT TO FALL OFF FROM COLD, ALEX CAME OUT LOOKING REALLY REALLY GOOD LOOKING. AS USUAL. BUT I DIGRESS. He was a big sweetheart and was so nice and soft spoken and just so fabulous. The girl who screamed at Jamie earlier was asking him a question about how she interpreted My Propeller. I may be totally wrong but I THOUGHT she asked if it had something to do with...men...something? Idk whatever she thought Alex was like, "*In cute little Sheffield accent*...Yeah but...no, no, that's not how I meant for it to be interpreted." He was nice about it though. ETA: Lolz forgot to add that at first the camera like...ran out of batteries for a second and the lens closed and everything and Alex was like, "Oh, it looks like it went to sleep :(" XD :

Anyway, I eventually asked him to sign the shirt I got at the gig and he's all, "okay just pull it out so that it's flat" and then he signed it. I was like swooning, telling him, "I'm not even exaggerating, you all are my favorite band" and he said thanks :D Then we took this photo:

Not quite happy with now I looked in it so I (and like 3 other girls, including Sofia) asked for a redo. He was like, "Heh, my goodness" at all of us scuffing our feet and asking ever so nicely, "Oh, it didn't turn out well, Redo plz :3". But, still, he was very sweet about it all. Although I do like that his arm was around my shoulders :3 Lolz at the dude behind us. GTFO!

This is the one I liked best though:

LIFE = COMPLETE ♥

Lolz we're just about the same height XD Also, I wasn't as nervous as I thought I would be when I finally saw him. However, I really think that's just because I was too numb.

Important Side-note: I really wasn't feeling Alex's long hair. Seriously, I was NOT a fan...

AND THEN I SAW IT IN ACTION LAST NIGHT AND IT ALL CHANGED I NOW SUPPORT HIS HAIR. IT LOOKS GREAT WHEN IT'S FLYING ALL OVER THE PLACE...although it's harder to get a good photo of his actual face XP

I just hope he and Alexa Chung are very happy together because I know that we look damn good together JUST SAYING.

Then Matt came out. I said that he was a ~beast~ and he thanked me. I also complimented his design of the t-shirt he signed.

Although my dorm is in walking distance from the 9:30 club...it was 1:00 am it this is DC so Sofia and her ~mum~ gave me a ride back to my dorm! Sweet, isn't it? On the way to the car we passed by Nick (and maybe Jamie?) again and wished them a good tour.

Aaaaaaaaaand me after the show. My hair is a hot mess, for real. But it was all SO worth it. OMG. There is so much I wish I was able to say to Alex but I was tongue-tied.

Oh, and here is the bomb shirt from the show. Hay thar, Matt:

AND FOR THE RECORD, NO, I DON'T KNOW WHAT ALEX/ANY OF THEM SMELLED LIKE! XD I'm sorry to disappoint but I don't know. People asked me the same question after I hugged Rupert Grint back in 07. I really just...don't smell people? Nick probably smelled like cigarettes though since he just bummed one when he got outside.

Anyway, if there is a moral to this story: THINGS ARE WORTH THE WAIT. It was cold but after you've been through Obama's Inauguration you tend to have some comfort in the fact that everything can be WAY worse. Also, you never know when opportunities like this will arise again. As much as I would love for Arctic Monkeys to keep playing small gigs when they tour in the US, their gigs may get bigger and bigger over time, maybe to the point where they would be way less accessible. So yes, I'm glad I went through all of this :)

Ta ta, lovelies. This took forever to write out/put together so comment!
