So much to love wbout the fic in general and this chapter in particular. I really cannot put into words how much I adore your characterisation of Lestrade as the One Honest Cop. I equally love the fact that while he's prepared to buck the system (and/or a puppeteer trying to manipulate the system), you also make it clear that he's sensible and politic enough to not be rebellious simply for the hell of it and knows when he should just keep his head down if he can.
Your Lestrade is just so bloody REAL. I was ever so impressed by the characterisation in the show, but I think yours is my favourite Lestrade EVER.
And dammit, still need a Lestrade icon (will have to work on that tonight methinks).
One slight query. This is all (so far) set prior to Study in Pink, right? You haven't emphatically set out the timeline as far as I can see, but it would make so much sense if it was pre-series. For one thing, where you've ended this chapter would explain how Lestrade knew that Sherlock would get antsy about a "fake until they find something" drug bust. But even more impressive to me would be the implication that not being able to manipulate Lestrade might have played a factor in how relatively quickly Mycroft accepted that he couldn't bribe John into spying on Sherlock. Since he'd met one incorruptible man, he recognised the potential for another.
Anyways, I hope you are still beavering away at this because I'll be hanging out for each new installment.
Cheers!

I'm stoked you like my Lestrade. Yes, I'm working on it, but the update rate is slowing as the work is harder and the characters aren't co-operating.
If you want to friend to catch updates, feel free.
