i love the swiss, they're so organised.

when we went to the bookshop on friday night at around 12 our time there were a fair few people waiting in the barriers at the front of the shop but not that many. but about 10 mins after we sat down it sudddenly seemed to fill up and there were loads of people reaching out past the barrier. we were given free water and jelly belly beans, it was pretty cool. you could feel the excitement in the air. there was a countdown clock and all the shop people were in robes. there were a couple of security guards stood in the door who looked a little scary! we had a countdown as it got to one and then we were all let in a few at a time. we got in in no time, it was so amazing to see the pile of books! we were out and in a taxi in about 20 mins, it all went really well. we got back to our hotel, our R.E.M room having a rolling stones disc on the wall and a picture of elvis, the only thing that made it R.E.M was the sign on the door, a bit random. anyway, we read a couple of chapters and then crashed.

we didn't have to get checked out too early so we read a bit more and then set off for the station. we took a tram back as by this time we knew where we were and where we wanted to be. i got a swatch watch and we got very expensive truffles and yummy biscuits and a huge pretzel :D, the food thing still hasn't worn off yet, hehehe.

we went to see jenny's dad at the hospital in basel on tuesday, gaz set out with us but forgot his tablets so had to go home. it was a cool trip through, we passed a castle where they make beer, we went past too fast to take a picture but it was quite spectacular. basel was full of beautiful old building and cool modern sculptures and stuff. we took a tram to the hospital so we got to see a bit as we went through the centre. i sat outside with me book whilst jenny went in. he came out to see me afterwards which was really nice considering he's feeling ill and had to put a mask on and drag his iv line with him. he hadn't really wanted to see anyone other than family with the way he feels and having no hair etc which is why i didn't go in. but i think he wanted to see who i was seeing as i've been in his house for nearly a month and in charge of fiona on my own sometimes so i guess he wanted to check me out. i was really quite nervous when i realised he was walking beside jenny as she came out. im glad i didn't have any warning, i'd probably have got myself so nervous that i couldn't speak.

we've been pretty ill since then, i think everything's catching up with us. jenny's mum is coming next week which hopefully will help as she can cook and do the cleaning etc. we might try and go away for a few days if we can to see a bit more of switzerland, we're going to try and get someway up a mountain whilst we're here, its one of those things that should be done in a country like this. along with eating the chocolate, and getting a swiss army knife (which incidentally i got on our way back from basel, its pretty funky!).

jenny's dad came home today, (well to his girlfriend's flat). i don't know i'm mentioning this last seeing as its the most important thing to happen this week, i guess its cause im doing it chronologically. we thought he might have had to go into a flat near the hospital as he'd have to have regular check ups, but it seems they're happy enough for him to go straight home which is great. its not home home but gaby's flat is smaller and she'll be able to look after him etc. so thats all good. hopefully we'll be able to go over and visit him there soon.

i need to go help make dinner now, we're having rosti :D
