People who knew mountain_hiker should probably read this.

Huge sad sigh.

Thanks. He was a good guy and had just made a whole bunch of progress in his life. Phoo.

In reading between the lines, it sounds like his situation and behavior was similar to the friend you recently lost the same way.

My sympathies to you and his other friends. That's always really rough.

Me too. He was just getting his life back together! Doing all this neat stuff...
I don't know what to say.

Yeah, I'm just kind of... flabbergasted. He'd sounded so up in recent posts.

Exactly.
I suppose we can't ever understand another person's mindset, but this situation is more incomprehensible to me than some other situations I've seen. I feel like pointing at all these things and saying "but! but!"

Very sad - had it have anything to do with the death of Steve? That guy seemed to be a huge pillar of strength to lots of people.

A lot, I think. He'd posted extensively about Steve in the last couple of months, and they'd done a fair bit of climbing together.

Steve's death had something to do with it, but it was only part of the full picture. I have Terry's last text message, which actually references dates around the time of Steve's death. Unfortunately, other events led to his actions Friday night. Three of us were instructed to have an entry of his unlocked for all of his Live Journal friends to read. The process will take a while due to LJ's terms and guidelines. When that entry is unlocked, I will link to it in a public post. If you prefer a PM, I can send one to you as well.

I can say that the mountaineering community is planning a memorial, and as of last night, they were discussing Crestone as the place. Apparently, his father is also planning a service. No details on that have been provided.
