LIVEJOURNAL BETRAYS

Mar 15, 2008 10:47

In case you hadn't heard, SixApart acquired lj from the creator about a year ago, maybe less. This is a company. They created side banners for those who wanted more features. Okay, I can live with ads in order to post photos, thought my alter ego. As you notice, there are not side banners on THIS journal unless you are logged in as a LJ Plus Account user.

BUT NOW- there is no more basic account creation. Livejournal, Inc. announced FRIDAY that any account created after WEDNESDAY could NOT be a basic account. In other words, every new user now sees sidebar advertising. Additionally, the PAID users who support the site in order to read the FREE/BASIC users' accounts have begun to see ads (!!) because they don't use cookies to identify the paid users anymore.

Here's what livejournal's creator has to say about it.

It is a sad, sad day for livejournal.

I know everyone I meet and give this journal's name to always say, "What, you have a livejournal? Isn't that eighth-grade of you?" I love my livejournal. Correction: I loved my livejournal. And honestly, I am now considering other blogging options, even (GASP!) Windows Live. If you don't appreciate LJ, Inc's decision, I recommend you consider a switch yourself.
