From Bad to Worse
This Thanksgiving was fun and it was great seeing everyone, but Les, my step-father, has been picking up smoking again. I've known for a bit, finding the buts in the toilet (which just makes it smell worse), and my sister smelling is on him when she met up with him. The bad part is that he's been denying it from my mother. Completely ignoring the fact that it's not a smart idea. It took a lot of courage for me to tell my mom on Friday what I knew, and Shanna had already told her. She thought that Shanna was just smelling to smoke from the fireplace but I made it concrete with telling her about the bathroom, and that his car smells like smoke. It also explains why he's always keeping the windows open in the beginning of winter, when it's so cold.
Now we were going to confront him about it today after mom got home from work, and talk about his eating habits and how he needs to start taking care of himself. Unfortunately, I caught him in the act of smoking. Openly, outside walking around to try to hide it from me. He acted like I had caught him stealing a cookie from a bag for someone else (which he's also done, and I caught him doing). I confronted him. And told him that mom already knows. Now I don't know what to do. Because it's going to look bad have a intervention about his smoking and eating habits tonight when mom gets home. Do I tell her and let her know? Do I find someway to disappear when she tries it. Was it a good idea to catch him in the act and let him know that I saw? I wasn't thinking and now I'm thinking it over, and I don't want him to think that I've betrayed him.
