we're floating weightless
(oh, I didn't ask for this)
but I am not afraid.
I can wake and trust you, walk and believe,
wonder and forget
everything I thought I had:
lonesomeness a badge
sewn onto the sleeve of my jean jacket
I'm collecting them all, these marks of adulthood,
giant handfuls in too-small hands
things are sifting out through my fingers
I may be losing my grip
oh but you can't lose what you never had,
and I never had you.
and I didn't ask for this.
but I am not afraid.
outstretched arms and empty hands:
I'm somewhere in space, but I'm balanced.
