It's always nice when hype turns out to be warranted. As much as I love classic movies it's difficult to believe I'd never seen On The Waterfront till today. But, jaez, people. They used to give out Best Picture Oscars to films that were best pictures. They used to make movies that deserved it. How come our Hollywood is such a crapshoot? Inquiring minds want to know.
I do have a beef with the score though. I believe "too much too often" covers it.
Next on the Netflix queue is A Countess From Hong Kong. Brando + comedy + Charlie Chaplin = skepticism and bad reviews. Meanwhile, I'm off to San Francisco for the weekend.
