So much to get all excited about. First of all, I’m in FF fangirl heaven after watching AC, the short anime OVA and the trailer for the Vincent game. Be still my super geeky and perverted heart. Now I wish they’d release FFVII: AC instead of Spirits Within. Yeah, a huge majority of the mainstream audience wouldn’t get most of it, but damn was it cool. The OVA was great in that it focused on the action. I wasn’t a big fan of Zack when I played the game. Mainly because he didn’t do much. I became more of a fan due to yaoi DJs. Odd that. And the Vincent game…I can’t play it (I suck at everything but RPG), but damn I so want to watch someone play it. So enough about FF.
Len over at aarinfantasy was kind enough to upload some chapters of Yateraneeze! Those of you from YD you should already know how much I like this manga. So follow the cut to some scans. Tastier scans are of course hidden.
Just a quick warning before you click the cut. I am 1: a spoiler whore. 2: very impatient. 3: a very impatient spoiler whore. So expect plenty of spoilers ahead (as if raw scans weren’t spoilers. . .)
So I planned to do summaries, but those take far too long. So I thought I’d list off why this manga continues to entertain me.
1. Hiroya is not a wimp. Shocking statement, I know, but this boy can and will fight back. His “No” to sex is made damn clear to Misaki with both physical and verbal blows. He jumps into a fight to help Misaki from his friends. He semi-consciously protects himself from another attempt by Saita with a few choice words about Chisato. However, he is all uke, so most of his later fights against Misaki involving slapping. Now while I do think Misaki deserves all the pain he can get after the first 2 volumes, it does get annoying.
2. Misaki isn’t an arrogant bastard. Oh my, what a change a beating heart and restrained libido can do to a guy. When school starts up again he pretty much follows Hiroya around like a puppy dog. Thus leading to a flustered, embarrassed Hiroya who ends up either avoiding, slapping or running away from Misaki. Quite a change from the start. I find this change both endearing and annoying. However, Misaki isn’t completely changed. That’s a good thing.
3. Misaki’s friends continue to do bad things, but then in the typical Japanese fashion they suddenly turn good. I’d hold a serious grudge against someone who ripped me off and attempted to rape me, but enemies becoming friends is typical in the “I will never forgive you” culture. XD
4. Saita is still around and he tries attempt #2 with Hiroya. You'd think Hiroya would be a bit smarter, but eh whatever. Hiroya was down in the dumps about Misaki again, so I guess that made him easy prey. Saita is such a sleaze, he amuses me greatly. Nothing quite like openly kissing both men and women in front of the boy that makes your heart go *doki doki,* not to mention the whole pissed off choking incident. He manages to get all of Hiroya's clothes off this time, but Hiroya gained a bit more information and shows survival skills while semi-conscious. Of course the morning after was not quite that explanatory. XD
4. Chisato is still my favorite and he shows up a bit more often. His reaction to Misaki actually seriously studying was priceless. He was even hotter when younger too. *drools*
5. Angst factor - plenty of close calls and fights with Hiroya and whoever is attempting to take him by force in the chapter. However my favorite and one I don’t totally understand is Hiroya’s complete breakdown. It came out of nowhere and was such a shock to both readers and characters. Plus it has the cutest tuck into bed scene after the fact by the enemy turned friends. Funny thing is that they were all trying to beat the crap out of each other just a few minutes before.
6. Humor - hard to tell with dialogue, but the back to school section is a lot lighter than the start. Lots of cute moments.
7. Smexiness - oh plenty to keep me happy. But the best part is that it doesn't look like they've gone all the way together yet. I could be wrong, since in some places it looks like they have. But Hiroya is still against the whole sex thing, so I'm thinking they haven't. Err, that's confusing. Anyway, I like the fact that they haven't gone further since this is 7 volumes and sex always makes a nice climax to a story. (hehehe, yes I know that was lame, leave me alone). There is plenty of Misaki style fooling around to keep the yaoi fans happy however.
Now onto the things I don’t like. I’m not too impressed with the story of them back in school. Misaki is now the one following Hiroya around like a lap dog. It’s a really odd switch. My favorite, Saita, has one last go with Hiroya, but now seems to have exited the hunt. That makes me sad, he’s too devious to drop out of the playing field. Then there’s the introduction of the jealous bitch character. Ugh, I hate her in shoujo and I hate her even more in yaoi. Breasts begone! She seemed cool at first as the teasing and all knowing female presence that adds a 3rd person balance to the plot, but then she turns all clingy to Misaki and starts the Plan to Destroy the Gay Boy’s Relationship #3791038-A. Bleh, angst factor I could do without.
A big plus is the art. It's getting really close to the style in Junjyou Karen and that makes me happy. The clothes are no longer as blocky looking, but they still look outdated early 90s fashion. The expressions and the eyes are softer. There's an extra picture of I believe Hiroya in an altered hairstyle. If he looked like that all the time, I could live with the lightened hair. But I still think he was a lot hotter in black hair.
Sample Scans
Taste my palm libido boy!
Saita could never say no to comfort sex or any sex for that matter.
Misaki is so whipped by this point.
Chisato wonders what the hell happened to have both boys studying.
XD I said he wasn't a wimp. Hiroya Chomp Attack!
Misaki really doesn't need to be fed water, but he's not going to stop a golden opportunity.
The art style is nearing my favorite in Junjyou Karen and that makes me very happy. So does that kiss.
That is all for now. I might put some more scans up later. I need to find the younger Chisato at least. Yummy!
