Ok, so I've just watched Primeval and after watching such an abysmal episode I felt compelled to review it. I don't normally review episodes here (maybe I'll start though) but I just have to have a rant. There were a lot of things that just didn't work and overall it made it a bad episode.
The whole Abby/Connor storyline was completely cliche. I don't normally mind it, but the way it was dealt with in this episode was so lame and just poorly written. The 'I love you' line was so nauseating. Couldn't they have done it in a more original way?
Talking of poorly written, the tension between Stephan and Cutter seemed to come out of nowhere. I was confused. They've never majorly disagreed about anything before, and Cutter finding out about Helen and Stephan has been dealt with. The only thing I could think of was last weeks ep where Stephan was unhappy about the public not being told about what was going on, but that didn't explain it either. I don't know where it came from and I hope it's gone from next episode.
I hope the Cutter and Claudia/Jenny relationship isn't being rekindled/started. It was nauseating the first time around, I really don't need to see it again. Especially as Jenny is even more annoying than Claudia; she's a total bitch with absolutely no redeeming qualities. And what was all that about her fiance not being very interested about her career all about? Are we supposed to feel sorry for her? I don't. It was subtle as a brick.
The episode just didn't seem to fit together. The monsters just seemed a bit of an after thought and seemed to be there as a dramatic prop. It could have been an interesting storyline, but it just wasn't. Nobody even really said anything about the fact that it looked like humans may evolve into gorilla/sharks! The rescue was sooo over-dramatic, and that slow motion was laughable.
I love Primeval, but this episode was ridiculous. It felt to me like I was watching a different show. It just seemed sloppy, cliched and melodramatic. I really really hope next weeks is better.
Phew, I feel so much better now that's off my chest! God, I'm in such a bitchy mood. I wouldn't have liked that episode even if I wasn't though. Promise!
