A MESSAGE FROM BILL STACK:
i was talking to cameron helm (drummer of alexandria) when he called the new owner of the lions club, bill snoddy, today. bill informed cameron that the brownsburg lions club will no longer rent out dates to bands with the intent to perform.
much like eaton hall
the brownsburg lions club is dead
i dont know if this upsets anyone else as much as it has me
or if i can rightfully expect to have this upset anyone
but think about this
4 years ago, the west side of indianapolis was completely isolated from the city and its scene
any up starting band from here trying to cut its teeth on the indianapolis scene would have to desperately annoy venue bookies to get a spot on a show
and given the constant collapse of many venues in marion county (the volcano room, the festivilla, rehearsal studios, isc skatepark), shows became more and more scarce for these bands
but from the desperation
we starved for our own venue
renting out public halls on our own to attempt to resemble the shows we played out in indy
at first eaton hall 3 years ago, shows were held occasionally
no show held there was ever really that successful in terms of turn out and the biggest band that ever played there was spicolie (featuring joel david lauver of an apparatus)
but the owner soon restricted the use of eaton for concerts due constant fighting
but right across the street in arbuckle park lay the lions club
in the first few months after eaton hall, shows held at the lions club were few and far between
atleast until november 2004
i dont know what got into fall of apathy, but those kids started booking shows left and right
and since then many bands have followed suit to help establish a scene
on october 8th, 2004
the bill for the lions club was
first day back
alexandria
fall of apathy
henry cant die
no national acts, no gimmicks, and $5 to get in
there was a head count of 150
no way in hell that number could have happened at the emerson or at logos
since then we have had been able to have national acts such as haste the day, suffocate faster, feature presentation, calico system, double crossed, under minded, harlots, still remains, breather resist, he who corrupts..... play at the lions club
and many shows with virtually no advertising other than word of mouth, turned out exceptionally profitable
the brownsburg lions club may be one of the most successful diy venues in indianapolis
ever
but i award the success of this venue on the people who came to shows
all the restless kids in hendricks county looking for something to do, watch, or just be a part of strengthened the unity and integrity of bands not just from indianapolis, but from around the country
and i believe we all still possess this magnetism
with or without the lions club
THIS IS A CALL TO ARMS
i would like for everyone who reads this please be on alert for any public hall that can be rented out on weekends, a generous distance away from public housing, and ample parking
if any of you know of a place
PLEASE IM ME
at a.i.m. " chemicalsexist "
if any of you give a damn, please copy and repost this
i would greatly appreciate it
thank you for reading
much love
