I really hate the American arrogance that comes out so strongly in international sportscasts. You'd think that when announcing at the Olympics, they might be interested in showcasing the best from around the world, but that never seems to be the case. They pick their favorites which are 7/8 American and 1/8 the best from the rest of the world and talk only of those people. It doesn't matter if a world record holder or the former medalist is in a field; if the broadcasters haven't picked that person as one of their favorites then that person, who is quite accomplished and deserves some screen time, doesn't get his due. Ridiculous. More often than not, it's only the strong athletes from little countries that get passed over completely like that, but it still sucks.
While the focus of many events continues to anger me, I am loving the amount of events I get to watch this year in comparison with years past. Having a DVR makes quite a difference, as I can watch all of the events which were screened during sleeping and working hours. Granted, I've pretty much been using it more for the working hours, when I should have been using it for both. It's just so hard to stop watching! I love the Olympics.
