So college has gone by crazy fast! My first semester ends the week of December 11th, which is insane! I love college, and I’m so glad I am where I am! Right now I’m taking just the basic general education stuff, but that alone has left me with doubts about being a teacher. Tons of endless questions of hesitation have been circling my mind about the whole matter, but all my doubts were wiped away today!
One of the parents of a second grade student at my mom’s school knows a lady who is trying to make (And get made) 2007 infant hats by 2007 and then she is going to sent them to a third world country for new born babies. Well, both the 2nd grade classes at my mom’s school are helping out with this project, and they started today. About 10 other moms and well I was the outcast (totally made a mom feel old because she thought I was a parent haha) worked with little clusters of kids and taught them how to use a nifty knitter and off we went! Oh my goodness, I don’t think I’ve had that much fun in a long time! The little kids in my group, were pretty much the coolest! They thought that making hats was the best thing ever and they didn’t want to stop. They were getting really into it and having a blast! This conversation made me laugh a lot…
Little Girl #1: These are so fun and easy to make!
Little Girl #2: Ya!! If my mom has a baby again, I would make that baby a hat too!!!
Little Boy: I would make a hat for a baby if my mom had another one…but she had her tubes tied!
Little Girl #2: Tubes tied?!? What does that mean?!?
Little Girl #1: That almost sounds like tying you shoes, but with tubes!
Me: *cracking up in the corner*
Every little kid was smiling and laughing and having a grand old time! I had hugs from so many kids, even from some I didn’t know! In the mere 3 hours I was there, my bummer mood was completely reversed and it was because of them! I can honestly now say, that this is what I want to do that everyday! I want to be in that environment and work with little kids (they sure as hell are a lot more fun than adults). People should learn a thing or two from kids! Seriously…wouldn’t it be ideal if everyone was happy and carefree as little kids! I sure know that would be pretty dandy!
It’s days like today that motivates me to do my homework, so I can pass all my classes and be one step closer to having a class of my own! 5 weeks and 7 semesters to go! Haha
