lots of changes
More regular posting by others in my friends feed has inspired me to post here again. And there have been a lot of things happening. Not surprising since I last posted 4 years ago.
Hubs and I have been in DC since 2011 but we're in the process of moving up to CT. DC is/has been great for my career (I'm on job 3 since moving here) but abysmal for the spousal unit. He's been un/underemployed since we moved here. The full time jobs he has landed have been awful and toxic, with little room for advancement. We've also been thinking about buying and finding something more permanent and the DC housing market is just so ridiculous. We'd tossed around the idea of moving up to CT to be closer to my family (especially since we now have 2 newphews!). On a whim I did a search and found a writer job with my alma mater. He applied, interviewed, and got it! He started early December and is clearly a lot happier (even though he's living with his in-laws).
I'm still in DC and will be here until May. Because my boss and the agency I work for are awesome, and the Federal government is pro telework, I'm keeping my job and becoming a full time remote worker. This means I'll also be traveling back to DC a few times a year which is great because I'll still be regularly seeing all the wonderful friends we've made living here.
Moving back to a more affordable housing area means we're buying a place. We started looking when I was up there around Christmas, and unexpectedly found a place we really liked. We're currently under contract on a really cute house in a very walkable area close to a thriving downtown area. Things aren't fully settled since we need to ask for some repairs based on our inspection but I'm confident we're almost there. I'm very excited to be starting this next chapter of our lives.
