Family Rules

Another PSA type post. There will be something more substantive soon, as I have a slew of personal crises eating my brain at the moment. But I'm still trying to get those thoughts into some sort of order. So, in the meantime, this topic is still coming up a lot with friends/work. All families have unspoken rules. I have a past, but I am not my past. Yet, it can hold great sway when I let myself lapse into unconsciousness about it. And suddenly the old tapes will look like good ideas again. There are certain things that I have had to learn to disbelieve my own beliefs about.

But then I remember my favorite saying: "You know that popping sound you're hearing right now? Well, that's your worldview shifting without a clutch."

That would pretty much sum up my more interesting growth curves.

Hmmm. I'm having a thought. It occurs to me that EMDR and hypnosis actually can be used to literally re-write the brain. Similar principles apply to meditation. So perhaps you have been re-routing some circuitry over time, in the more physiological sense.

In that case, I will make a more consistent effort to post some of the knowledge I have on this topic. This is not because I think you have some great need for my psychological acumen. But rather that I think sometimes external benchmarks can be helpful in tracking one's internal progress on a chosen course.

And I too love this stuff.
