Yesterday, in a hurry to answer my mobile, I dropped it while it was charging.
It broke the charger cable.
Today when I went to charge it up (using a different charger), I find that it's not recognising that it's connected to the charger, nor will it connect to the computer. Leading me to the conclusion that I've broken the mini-USB jack.
Tonight, I cracked it open, in the hope that it was just a broken/cracked wire and I could perhaps solder it back.
Unfortunately not. There was nothing wrong I could see.
So unless I want to muck about with a new battery and an external battery charger, I guess I'm back to using my old dumb phone for the forseeable future (ie, whenever I feel rich enough to afford another smartphone).
I'm a bit annoyed about this turn of events as I'd only owned the phone for less than a year, and it was an expensive Chinese import.
**EDIT**
Plugged it one to give it one final go....and it's charging! Yay. Maybe not dead yet after all.
