"Me" [7:16 P.M.]: I think Hilary should stay out of the oval office.
"Me" [7:16 P.M.]: Women? I dont care.
Seamus Wylie [7:16 P.M.]: Which made me blink a lot. She's highly independent.
"Me" [7:16 P.M.]: Hilary, not so much.
Seamus Wylie [7:17 P.M.]: Ah, I don't mind Hilary. What's wrong with her?
"Me" [7:17 P.M.]: I dunno. Just..something.
"Me" [7:17 P.M.]: I cant even say what about her makes me go: ".........I dunno about this."
"Me" [7:17 P.M.]: I could be wrong.
"Me" [7:17 P.M.]: I'd vote for her over another republican, though.
"Me" [7:18 P.M.]: The economy really, really needs a democrat right now. XD
Seamus Wylie [7:18 P.M.]: Well, I'm going to watch when she has her GLBT forum on Logo. She seems to be the only candidate specifically TALKING to gay people.
"Me" [7:18 P.M.]: Oh. see. I dont even pay attention to that. XD
"Me" [7:19 P.M.]: Also, its a bad idea on her part, to really get too involved.
"Me" [7:19 P.M.]: Lets face it, being too gay friendly WILL politically hamstring her.
"Me" [7:19 P.M.]: Or get the White house attacked by rednecks.
Seamus Wylie [7:19 P.M.]: I know. It depends on what she says, really. But...it's brave of her.
"Me" [7:20 P.M.]: Well yeah.
"Me" [7:20 P.M.]: But you do that AFTER you get in office. XD
"Me" [7:20 P.M.]: Not before.
Seamus Wylie [7:20 P.M.]: And there is a rather large untapped voting pool there- I know a lot of gay people who don't vote at all, and if she can convince them to do so...
"Me" [7:21 P.M.]: Still. The majority arent. Annnnd I wouldnt hinge anything on our flawless election process anyway.
Seamus Wylie [7:22 P.M.]: It is nice to be acknowledged by any major candidate as anything more than a brief talking point in "controversial issues today."
"Me" [7:22 P.M.]: xD
"Me" [7:24 P.M.]: I guess I'm just not all that concerned with it. I've never been. I've always thought that being too much of an issue causes more problems than it solves. Breeds more prejudice, you know? Like, it makes it look like gay people are begging to be the new oppressed group and stirring trouble to that effect, which is how a lot of people view it. Not true, but that doesnt really matter in the real world. All that matters is largely how something looks. Making a fuss never looks good. XD
Seamus Wylie [7:25 P.M.]: Well, you're also not in a committed relationship and wishing you could have the tax breaks that one of you having a different set of genitalia could grant you.
Seamus Wylie [7:26 P.M.]: Not to mention medical decision making, and child custody issues.
"Me" [7:27 P.M.]: Well, no. I never said that gay people shouldnt be granted that, either. But I think comming on too strong about it, and approaching it so defensively isnt a good idea.
Seamus Wylie [7:27 P.M.]: I do agree some are too aggressive about it.
Seamus Wylie [7:27 P.M.]: And it makes me think they've never lived anywhere but a major city with a huge gay population.
"Me" [7:28 P.M.]: I mean, seriously. Someone needs to just propose something 'not marriage, but legally binding."
Seamus Wylie [7:28 P.M.]: I want marriage, but unlike some, I'll accept civil unions as something in the meantime.
"Me" [7:28 P.M.]: because thats the root of it anyway.
Seamus Wylie [7:28 P.M.]: For one thing, after people find out it's not that big a goddamn deal, feelings toward marriage tend to relax.
"Me" [7:29 P.M.]: Marriage is an idea. You dont need the state to recognize it to be married. You just need the legal part.
"Me" [7:29 P.M.]: Get the legal issue cleared up, and people can do and call it whatever the fuck they want in private. XD
Seamus Wylie [7:30 P.M.]: Oh, I know. When Jess and I have our ceremony, we will be calling it a marriage.
"Me" [7:31 P.M.]: Hmm. I almost wanna slap all this on my LJ. xD interesting conversation.
Seamus Wylie [7:32 P.M.]: Go ahead if you want to.
