Sooooo, I've finished the entire series, and here's a breakdown of all seasons. (bit of spoiler alert, warning!)
Season 1: the series starts like the old ones: Cylons destroy the colonies and a rag tag fleet, led by an old battlestar, has to escape, to a shining planet, known as Earth. Que music.
The series starts good, and the Cylons look human! There's weird plot twists, great space battles, and the characters are well done. A great start indeed.
Season 2: it actually got better! More action, more space battles, very good storylines, and the second battlestar Pegasus to top a brilliant season off! Nice cliffhanger too.
Season 3: oh dear, where did we go wrong...? Did all the good scenario writers just quit or something? I knew the moment they found a planet to settle on, that it wouldn't begin very good. The constant grey filter was annoying too. But this is nothing more than a soap! Seriously, watch "Neighbours" instead. You'll get more space battles and a better story. Boy, did this season SUCK!
Season 4: I actually had to think about buying this season, after the crappy third, but it was worth it. We're back on track or a bit, and the revelation of every "skinjob", save one, was a nice twist too. It was the only good thing about season three too. Season 4 takes this further, and does it well. The "new" Cylons are good for some intereesting storylines, we have some good action, and we actually find Earth at the end! Pity about the planet though. Que cliffhanger. Oh, and music.
The last season: It starts great, I gotta say. A full scale mutiny is a good way to tense things up. And the ones who deserve to die, actually die by the 5th episode or so. Yay for that. The final Cylon is revealed quite early, and I didn't see this one coming. Very nicely done.
Then, things go awry with the scenario. I think they brought the cheap, drugs-loving guys from season 3 back for a bit, as the story and tension are flushed down the toilet. That is, however, until someone intervened, shot those impotent jerks, and actually delivered an action packed ending! Then, they find another nice planet, and things just drag on for far too long. Ok, it's an ending, but they don't have to give every single person an ending. Too stretched, but ok.
Final verdict: watch it. Battlestar Galactica is good. Really good. Even if it just for the first two seasons: it's a good series. Too bad there are SO many questions left though. And I won't be watching Caprica, no way. I've seen trailers. It looks like those idiots got resurrected. Yes, I'm talking about the writers. I hope someone proves me wrong on that.
