Tonight's AIM conversation between two rabid, yet analytical, Detective Conan fans:

RanMouri82: woo hoo!
RanMouri82: I'm catching up, though
RanMouri82: on file 598 as we chat
RanMouri82: and the first frame of pg 8 looks like Eisuke o.o
AvionicKnight: it's gotten good, no doubt about it ^^ some people thought that was kaito kid at first ;; I couldn't imagine what random thing would draw him there
AvionicKnight: it's not like the movies... kid won't just show up pointlessly ^^'
RanMouri82: lol
RanMouri82: yeah, he does have a habit of doing that in the movies, huh?
RanMouri82: but his involvement in Movie 10 was one of the few redeeming qualities
RanMouri82: and all the cute character moments

AvionicKnight: of course ^_^ I'm just surprised gosho finally felt like explaining it
AvionicKnight: I knew according to some interview he was going to, but I didn't actually expect it ^^' figured it was a mistranslation or something
RanMouri82: yeah, I'd heard of the interview, too
RanMouri82: but didn't want to get my hopes up ^_^
RanMouri82: it just seemed illogical that it would be Shiho, not Akemi
RanMouri82: but I wonder how much Shiho knows of who Akai really is?
RanMouri82: and heh, I knew Gin had to be one of the BO's "big guns"
AvionicKnight: hehe, of course. An 'executive', I guess Vermouth and Pisco were the others...
RanMouri82: oh, hey!
RanMouri82: So Gin didn't just randomly decide to kill Akemi! It was all on purpose to keep Shuichi from contacting her?!
AvionicKnight: *nods* though she could tell the org that she felt used and had no intention of contacting him again
RanMouri82: but I agree with James Black, how they wouldn't want to take any chances
AvionicKnight: ^^ *poor girl*
AvionicKnight: then the message left on the cell phone, the ominous moon... I love this file ^^
RanMouri82: and Eisuke!
RanMouri82: with scissors!!!
AvionicKnight: but she called him 'Dai-kun'... that means Shuu might not have even told her his real name ;; and yes!
AvionicKnight: Then the ending... gosho's not even done yet ^^
AvionicKnight: this is why I read conan ^^

RanMouri82: And of course . . . someone infiltrates the FBI -.-*
RanMouri82: why does that somehow not surprise me?
RanMouri82: with such a lame name as Andre Camel
AvionicKnight: because the FBI is incompetent anyway ^^' and they admit it
RanMouri82: heh, at least they're honest

AvionicKnight: hehe, the first part of the series anyway is a bit sillier than the rest ^^'
AvionicKnight: gosho was just getting off of magic kaito
RanMouri82: ppl have already attempted the write about BO Christmas parties
RanMouri82: yeah, seems like MK has also been a bit darker
RanMouri82: that newest part ended on a somber note, that's for sure
RanMouri82: o.o
RanMouri82: Wha the?!
RanMouri82: They're sending everyone to the hospital? That's clever, but . . . so wrong!
AvionicKnight: yeah ^^ it's crazy
AvionicKnight: *meanwhile the BO avenges their fallen comrade? pretty noble for once*
RanMouri82: and so it ends . . . with the ominous flower pot
AvionicKnight: naturally ^^
RanMouri82: and does not return to Eisuke and Rena at all!
RanMouri82: this one is huge
AvionicKnight: it's basically halloween party #2, big revelations - check, climax of an arc - check ^^
RanMouri82: but just watch! after this hullaballoo is over, we'll jump right back into a Detective Boys file XD
AvionicKnight: *sighs* yeah ^^'
AvionicKnight: but who knows?
AvionicKnight: when 595 came around, they wrote "a new start in the series!", and they're given the files special names "series part x" since then...
AvionicKnight: maybe it's a paradigm change ... maybe not xp
AvionicKnight: I just know after that we need to get gin x shuuichi part two and it can't wait 50 files
RanMouri82: maybe it's the introduction of a new format that'll come back into play later?

RanMouri82: she can't just hang out at home trying to keep Ran safe again, not that it wasn't noble and all

AvionicKnight: she's sitting at home... <.<

RanMouri82: but we're more used to that, unfortunately ^^*
RanMouri82: Haibara used to be much less cooperative
RanMouri82: but she was always their prey, anyway
AvionicKnight: yeah ^^' can't blame conan for not wanting him involved after the whole getting tranquilized thing but...
AvionicKnight: *wanting her
RanMouri82: the only time I found her presence useful (as far as I remember, so don't hit!) was when she was captured and tried to hack into the files
RanMouri82: other than that, it's mostly been trying not to get killed
AvionicKnight: oh yeah, of course ;; she mostly gets in the way or tells conan to stop what he's doing
RanMouri82: or in the Hallow'een Party, trying to get herself killed so the others can go free
AvionicKnight: volume 18 -> volume 26 haibara seemed very different
RanMouri82: true
AvionicKnight: she tried to hack into those files, make the cures,
AvionicKnight: saved conan when he got knocked out in that castle case
RanMouri82: ah! that's one of the few cases I haven't read, so that's good to know
RanMouri82: but when it comes to the antidote, since she's hindered from making a permanent one, that plot thread ust stopped right there
AvionicKnight: well not saved exactly, but she became a detective herself ^^ and basically was responsible for keeping everyone together and making progress towards saving him
AvionicKnight: and yeah...
AvionicKnight: sadly, the most recent case of her being useful was a *movie*...
RanMouri82: with Ran, it's been similarly stagnant except for the recollection of Shuichi, the latest suspicion of Conan's identity, and the cool move at the Hallow'een Party
RanMouri82: don't tell me you mean Movie 10?
AvionicKnight: nah, her antidote #2 in 7
RanMouri82: if so, that's sad indeed
RanMouri82: LOL
RanMouri82: yeah, that was the crux of the plot in the movie
RanMouri82: and you're giving me more plunnies
AvionicKnight: she's also the only main character to really come close to dying...
RanMouri82: where someone (Conan?) tells Haibara she's not pulling her weight
RanMouri82: unless you count Conan himself
AvionicKnight: I mean, she was a real bloody mess after that volume 24 case ^^' yeah, besides conan in revival of course
RanMouri82: he's come pretty close
AvionicKnight: but we *knew* he wouldn't die
AvionicKnight: with haibara it wasn't certain ^^
RanMouri82: yeah! It's hard to realize that based on the anime's edit
RanMouri82: ah, I see what you mean
RanMouri82: not being the main character, she's technically expendable
RanMouri82: but at this late date, with all her escapes, I agree with you that it's unlikely
RanMouri82: it would defeat the purpose of her character growth
AvionicKnight: of course, we know a main character death is unlikely because of the nature of the series... but then again, the series has grown slightly darker... I think it's possible for a minor character to die like Shuu
RanMouri82: yeah, agreed
RanMouri82: some ppl wonder if Shin'ichi or Ran would die, but that's just impossible
RanMouri82: that would essentially make the series tragic, and as you said, that's not the nature of the series
RanMouri82: dark, yes, but not tragic
AvionicKnight: *nods* akemi's story doesn't exactly bring up spirits of course
RanMouri82: so it seems FBI can die, or maybe a police officer
AvionicKnight: I mean, it's actually kinda more sad now than before
RanMouri82: among other things, it shows how futile her fight was
AvionicKnight: I still can't believe shuu didn't tell her his real name
RanMouri82: I originally thought that it was her resistance that made Gin kill her, but no
AvionicKnight: I wonder how mutual it was, since he was technically using her at first
RanMouri82: maybe he never got a chance
RanMouri82: well, since James and Jodie speculated he never forgot about Akemi, I'm inclined to believe it
RanMouri82: b/c we're usually called upon in this series to take such revelations and observations at face value
AvionicKnight: oh yeah, of course he's avenging her now, but I wonder how much of that is post-rejection from the org
RanMouri82: good point
AvionicKnight: realizing you really loved her and all, and then finding out about her death
RanMouri82: that's heartbreaking
RanMouri82: especially because it doesn't look like he answered her
RanMouri82: but you know what's kinda funny?
AvionicKnight: imagining shuu in love?
RanMouri82: they had phones capable of text messaging
RanMouri82: and Conan had to use a pay phone
AvionicKnight: he's not the kind of character that... looks like he'd be into being a boyfriend
RanMouri82: yeah, true
AvionicKnight: oh yeah ^^' of course
AvionicKnight: they wrote she was killed "several months ago"...
RanMouri82: he looks like a lone wolf. seeing him there by the moon, one can imagine a lonely howl . . . aoooooo XD
AvionicKnight: now it's canon ^^'
AvionicKnight: how little time has passed
RanMouri82: actually, I was wondering about that. y'all are sure of the translation?
AvionicKnight: yup
RanMouri82: and I remember how you mentioned
RanMouri82: that one silly file that gave us a time reference
RanMouri82: and if there are special series names . . .
AvionicKnight: the word in japanese is suukagetsu
RanMouri82: it's too much to hope for the end any time soon, in fact, it had better not be soon
AvionicKnight: the trans all say 'several months', but I don't know how to interpret that in terms of a number
RanMouri82: but this could be something major--let's hope!
AvionicKnight: several can ... 5 to 10

RanMouri82: really? That's different from an English concept of several, yes?
AvionicKnight: I don't know ^^ actually I was giving my english conception, heh

RanMouri82: more than two, but fewer than many
AvionicKnight: -Shiho's tapes, the real meaning of the diary, 'raise the dead against the steam of time'...
RanMouri82: I've always been mixed up about the meaning, thinking it only meant "two"
RanMouri82: yeah!
RanMouri82: and character relationship resolutions or the beginnings of resolutions, from a good four or five couples
AvionicKnight: that's the thing... I wouldn't have any problem going back to that after whenever gosho plans to end this plot stuff, but...
