playing catch up! here are my final photos from chicago that haven't been posted yet.

PICTURE POST: my last few weeks in Chicago - nephews birthday in michigan, catch up nanny pics, bbq at the gym, midwest punk doc, windy day at the park, going away party, and lots of goodbyes

ravi being ravi, wearing a 'cat in the hat' hat

with anaya (one half of 'the twins) and mr. giggles

mr. giggles jumping on the roof of the fort and collapsing it. i'm a pretty talented fort builder at this point, i must say.

like rats about to play at albion house

an early spring day outside

this was right before ravi broke his leg. so behind on photos!

a day at the playground. the boys were swarmed by girls fighting over who got to push them, and ended with the girls all chanting 'go rishi, go rishi' like he was in the middle of a dance circle

a playdate at ari's house

ari knows she's the shit

hahaha this photo is amazing

ring around the rosy

rishi and his pink sunglasses and princess rings. love that this wasn't discouraged by his parents. i've babysat for several kids who were already so gendered at this age.

coffee with d.

wade came over to interview me for the midwest punk documentary he's been filming for a long time. here he is setting up the shot in my studio in chicago.

it was pretty fun having a discussion with him about punk/diy and what did and didn't work for me in the chicago scene, which was pretty pertinent since it's a large part of why i moved out of chicago

a "house" for rishi

collapsed

a goodbye dinner with richard following by him shaving a himself a mustache, inspired by matt's mustache. haha.

passing on the 'east coast pressure'

final play date at ari's

my very last day with the boys. i'm going to miss those little dudes so much! luckily i got my friend lisa a job working with them so i'll still be able to hear about them on the regular.

a celebratory dinner with the other zine fest organizers at handlebar

somewhere in my last month in chicago, daniel got his fingers tattooed! pretty babely.

at an opening for daniel's students' work. daniel teaches an after school photography program at a public high school in chicago.

at an open studio at daniel's art studio for his new work

my last day at the gym, watching a games WOD followed by a bbq

daniel got really ripped. crossfit is effective.

crossfit themed cupcakes made by kelsey

bbq and beerz

meeting leslie and sarah for coffee and drawing

a night in with daniel

movies and ice cream

a really windy, warm day during my last week in chicago. at humboldt park 'just doing nothing' with leslie and sarah

my bike got some much needed attention. i had sort of neglected the upkeep for a while. riding it in shitty weather without ever doing maintenance. now, with a general clean up, new chain, new rear cog, and trued rear wheel, it rides like a dream.

fighting the wind to fold up the sheet

out for thai at thai lagoon

on the monday before i left chicago, i went to michigan for a day to celebrate my nephews 4th birthday. this is his younger brother, asher.

here's thomas, the 4 year old

juggling with his uncle R, my younger brother

getting ready for the bday celebration

heading back to chicago the same night

it's rare that i would find myself downtown in the loop during my last year in chicago. especially during the colder months. it felt really fitting to be coming in on the train my last week and walking around at 11pm under the chicago lights alone. just thinking about what i would be leaving.

i spent the rest of the week meeting up with friends, packing, and getting a bunch of tedious errands done. i did find time to sit in wormhole one last time drawing for several hours while listening to archers of loaf. my favorite past-time. i started a really long-term on-going comics project. more details on that in the future, i'm sure.

met up late one night with daniel at the whistler for a jazz night

a few art friends were there

people were pretty tipsy

on wednesday met up with matt for a goodbye lunch at yummy yummy. leslie and her nanny kid, ari, came too.

i'm glad i had a goodbye lunch with ari too!

my fortune: "you will pass a difficult test that will make you happier." of course, i took that to mean my move to philly.

matt and i biked over to stanleys to buy fruit for juicing. stanleys is one establishment i'll surely miss! cheapest produce anywhere.

matt lives at a house called the juicer because he loves to juice.

in the juice log

wednesday night was my going away party at rainbo. it was nice to have all the people i care about in a room together before taking off

in the broken photobooth

my last full day in chicago. making me espresso. all a gal needs.

needless to say, it was a very bittersweet week with daniel.

will visited just to say bye to rover. he came bearing homemade dog treats!

out for a fancy night with d.

we forgot to take one legit photo together. we went to mana and then got coffee at streets.

afterwards we stopped by rishi and ravi's house for one last goodbye over there. daniel got to meet them all which was pretty cool since they all knew a lot about one another.

the had vegan cupcakes waiting for me!

two of the four cousins came over to say goodbye too. they all showed off gymnastics moves. they're competitive gymnasts!

leslie came over later that night to watch buffy together one last time. daniel helped me pack up late into the night. friday morning, waiting for the trailer

a goodbye mix from leslie
