One bit in the list of Oscar winners that made me very happy was that
Charlie Kaufman's
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind won the
original screenplay Oscar(TM). I found the screenplay to be both incredibly clever and deeply thought-provoking, and I saw it twice (and paid full price twice) when it was in theaters. I recently acquired the
2-Disc Collector's Edition from
Amazon, and am eagerly looking forward to rewatching the flick and to savoring the extensive 2-disc special features. Since the movie came out so long ago, I'm so pleased that this gem wasn't forgotten in the noise and shuffle.
After
Being John Malkovitch and
Adaptation, Charlie Kaufman just pulled yet another fabulous rabbit out of his magical hat. I'm in awe of his talent!
Most of you probably know that this movie poses the question of whether someone might be better off if the entire experience of a failed relationship could be erased from one's mind. As a person who has been through a nightmare gut-wrenching relationship from hell (with B&R, for those of you following at home), I found this to be a very pertinent question. Somehow I found the ideas presented in the movie to be therapeutic for me in my continual (and long-term) process to deal with that horrifying misery, and to glean the lessons from it and to somehow integrate those lessons into my life in some positive way.

In other news, the members of the local Feline Still and Motion Picture Academy unanimously awarded Mira (
mira_kitty) a special honorary kitty-Oscar for spectacular cuteness that graces many (but not enough!) still photos and which cries out to be captured as moving pictures. I've got to get a decent little camcorder and immortalize some of her characteristic adorable antics.
