Lily
For those of you who know Rachel and Chad:
They are now the proud parents of a beautiful little girl!
At 6:44pm yesterday (1/5/06), Lily Marion was born. 7lbs, 9oz, 20", with a 14" head! She's got a good head of hair, really long feet and Rachel's smile (I think). Absolutely gorgeous (not that that's any surprise.).
I got to be back-up coach and helped Rach through the worst of the labor (which was crazy short for a first time mom -- in all, about 8 hours, and only 1/2 hour of pushing) along with Chad. It was about the 2nd coolest thing I've ever done (#1 being the birth of my own boy, 1 year ago today). Rachel was so strong, so amazing. She did it with no drugs whatsoever, and, with the midwife's support, had minimal monitoring or anything. She just let her body do it's thing, and she was perfect. I'm so proud of her, so exhilirated by the whole experience. She and Chad were so close and loving -- they looked like a picture out of a happy hippy baby birthing book. And I've never seen Rachel more beautiful and glowy (which is seriously saying something) than a couple hours after the birth, as she sat there nursing her new daughter.
I've got more to say about this, but I need time to compose, and NBW seemed a bit anxious for news.
