Here's the deal: Toys for Tots will need toys for Christmas. Lots and lots of toys. Soft, fuzzy critters are ever-popular toys. Soft, fuzzy critters can be knitted. Like this one.
Surely the necessity is apparent. I'll expect most of you reading this to assist me in this endeavor and to enlist as many other like-minded individuals or willing dupes as possible. The pattern can be found here.
