oh, sweet debauchery

my less-civilized friends, also known as, those who are the only ones I can put up with, tonight described Hooters as Heaven. fact is, there's nothing spiritual about Hooters. there's no deep godly satisfaction in it at all.

no, Hooters is not Heaven. but it is all the delights of Earth that God told us not to enjoy wrapped up in one questionable establishment.

i ate 17 hot wings tonight, tying two of my best friends, Tanner and Adam, and beating my good buddy Nate by 7. my girlfriend only ate one, but i am so happy she was there anyway.

we talked about the girls. oh, how we talked about the girls. we even told them it was Adam's birthday so that they would dance for him. we ranked our favorites, and Adam kept the napkin that all of them signed as a reminder of one of the best nights he's had in a while.

if you've been keeping track, so far we've covered two of the seven deadly sins: gluttony and lust. and yet we're not dead. we are very much alive, and that is only the true pleasure of this Earth.

I'm such a Christian, and yet I love these moments where we can break free from what Jesus taught us. when we keep them in moderation, they are amazing. when we balance them with the spiritual sacrifices of everyday life, they are the brief moments of debauchery that make the Earth seem like a magical place.

I like being tempted by the devil every now and then. it gives me a reason to go to church. and do you know the insane endorphin high you get after 17 of the world's spiciest foods and a pitcher of mountain dew? there's something to be said for it.

oh, sweet debauchery. I am a godly being living a human experience, but in order to be fulfilled I have to carry out both of those things. tonight I was human; tonight I was alive. tonight was a night I will not soon forget.

tonight was Earth's image of Heaven.

And so it is.
Amen
