Well in a few short hours we will be in a new year. It scares me. 2005 is the year we graduate, but 2004 has been a great year, even though there were some ups and downs. Well since we're at the end of the year, I think it's time to take a look back at this year and how it has impacted me. It was a rocky start, but it ended in an awesome way.
January - The year started off like any other year. Average. January consisted mainly of schoolwork, midterms, and trying to do anything fun. I did well on my midterms that year, so that was a good thing about January, otherwise I left the month feeling the year was just "average," like all other years.
February - The month began with the New England Patriots winning the Superbowl. It was amazing. Then came two weeks of school until Valentine's Day and vacation. All I remember is that I got really sick so I didn't get to do anything special on Valentine's Day but there were some good times over the break. The week after that was Science Fair week, where I did horrible. I hate Science Fair and I'm SO LUCKY I didn't have to do it this year. February was also the month where I created this very journal. So if you're interested in reading about my February 2004, read my early Live Journal entries. Otherwise, the month started off great, then a bit downhill at the end of the month.
March - Feeling a bit downhill after the Science Fair, I felt March would bring me some cheers. It didn't. I was pressured by peers about something that felt eons away. I felt like I had all the time in the world. But I didn't. I took time for granted and blew my chance for a little fun in my life. I tried to rub it off, but a week later my car died. I was really down in the dumps. It meant the end of my independent transportation, and some total embarrassment.
April - The month started with more pressure from my peers. It made me feel terrible. To top it off, my parents said I would be getting another car but it never happened. By the time vacation arrived, I finally started to come to. The weather was getting warmer, so I felt with nice weather I would experience some memorable events. So the month started off with me thinking this was a horrible year but when the weather got warmer the year slowly got better.
May - I really don't think anything happened this month for this year. Mostly school, work, trying to find something fun. So by the end of this month, I felt that this year was below average, but not horrible, because my parents were still restraining me from independent transportation.
June - Halfway through this month I entered summer vacation. Weeknight band practices began too, and I had the feeling that this marching band season would be promising. I felt happy for the first time in a long time because the past 3 months had been filled with horror and it was time to relax and not worry about peer pressure. I had also scored 95 or better on 4 of my final exams, including two 99s. A week into the vacation, I started the college search process. I only visited 4 colleges, but only found interest in 1 of them. At the end of the month I went on vacation to Florida and reunited with some awesome family members.
July - The month started with me in Florida. I felt really happy. I even reunited with Hector Jr., one of my most coolest cousins who I hadn't seen since I was really young, about 10 years ago. I had an awesome 4th of July, went bowling with my family, and Greg (my cousin's husband, not a Greg that you may be thinking about) brought my brother and I to Islands of Adventure. It was a great time minus me getting stuck on Revenge of the Mummy. Then a week later I came home, and my brother and I got to see 3 Doors Down and Nickelback in concert. After that ... back to work and some college visiting. Then at the end of the month was Mike Furbush's crazy cookout where I got to see some school friends that I hadn't seen in a month. So July started out great, went a bit down to average, then ended "above average."
August - The first week of the month was awesome because I got to go college visiting, and this round included 3 of the 4 schools I am applying to. But after that came being stuck with nothing to do. There was work study at school, which sucked. After that came another college trip which included BC but my dad wouldn't let me apply there. Then Band Camp. It was long and tiring, but we accomplished so much. So August started off great, then went below average, and ended average with anticipation of some glory days.
September - I turned 18 the first day of this month and felt like I had so many new freedoms, but my parents were still restraining me from letting me drive myself. I felt like we were poor, only having 1 car at the time for the family. Then came school. We were seniors, but feeling like I had no independence because of my parents not letting me drive, I felt terrible again. By the end of the month, marching band wise, we tied for first in our first contest, and the Red Sox made it into the playoffs. So the month started off good, then bad, then average.
October - The marching band season had its ups and downs, winning at Melrose on the 2nd day of the month, then losing at Dartmouth a week later. Then on the 16th day of the month we hosted a marching band competition. I felt really happy since we won. But then the Red Sox fell behind 3-0 against the Yankees in the ALCS. However, at 1:30 in the morning on October 18, my life started turning in the right direction. David Ortiz hit a walk-off home run to give life to the Red Sox. Around 11 PM that same day, or the next night, he hit a walk-off single to bring the series back to New York. And the next two days ... we accomplished the most monumental comeback no other team has accomplished. Then on the night of October 27, we won the World Series, and the Curse of the Bambino ended. That day shall live in glory. Then 3 days later proved to be an even better day. I was entrusted with my mother's old car when she bought a new one, so for the first time in 7 months I got to drive myself places. I also went to the Red Sox parade that morning and in band, that night, we won the East Bridgewater show after losing the week before. We had a shot at winning it all. So October started off average, then ended on a good note.
November - On the 6th day of this month was marching band finals. My final contest in a Feehan band uniform. We won a platinum medal with an all-time high score of 96.0, and the New England Championships. Thanks for a great season everyone. That was probably the best night of my life. I wish I could relive it again. After that came the marching band banquet, but then it was off to simply school work and real work. Thanksgiving was a great time also. So November started off with me on cloud 9 then it was somewhat average to above average.
December - It started a bit shaky, since I wrote a letter to the store manager of Stop and Shop requesting an advancement and was really nervous that I would be denied one. While I was waiting the Bishop Feehan football team won its 4th superbowl title. We were all in celebration. A few days later I get word that I was approved for a work advancement and made cashier instead of the lowly bag-boy that I was. I also got my college applications sent out so in the middle of the month my self-esteem was so much higher than it was. Then came Christmas .... there was the concert that was great, when it was performed in front of the school everyone enjoyed it, and then there was the Christmas dance which was simply phenomenal. It was a night of fun and games. Then came Christmas day where I received so many cool gifts. And now we come to the end of this year with me writing this entry.
All in all 2004 started off to a rocky start, but from the middle of October to the end of this year there were some strong memories that made this a great year. Life feels perfect. I have a good feeling for 2005. So here is my list of New Year's Resolutions:
1. Not to procrastinate.
2. Be kind to everyone, most importantly my family as well as my friends.
3. To get the best grades possible, in both high school and college.
4. To keep in touch with all my high school friends after graduation, when I am far away in college.
5. To prevent an almost fatal flaw that happened this past year from happening again.
6. To believe in myself, so that any goals that seem impossible can become a reality.
Well I am anticipating the new year, and I have a good feeling it'll be just amazing.
