4 members of President's Bodyguards convicted for gangrape in 2003

This is the condition of judiciary system in India that it had taken 6 years for giving verdict related to gangrape done by President's security guards.

New Delhi: A city court on Monday convicted all the four accused in the sensational Buddha Jayanti Park gangarape case of 2003. Harpreet Singh, Satyender Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Manish Kumar - belonging to cavalier security guards of the elite President's Bodyguard - were booked under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), dealing with gangrape, abduction and attempt to commit robbery.

The victim, 17, a student of a Delhi University, had gone with her friend to the park - which is situated near Rashtrapati Bhavan - on October 6, 2003. It was here that she was raped by Harpreet and Satender while the other two accused, Kuldeep and Manish, kept guard.

Out of four convicts, Satender and Harpeet have been convicted of gang rape, abduction and robbery. The other two, Kuldeep and Manish, have been acquitted of the gangrape charge but convicted for abduction, robbery and common intention.

The sensational incident shocked the Capital six years ago and the four security guards of the President's Bodyguards Group were booked for gangrape and abduction in the case.

The quantum of sentence will be announced on August 22, 2009.
