Weekend blizzard

The blizzard of 2013 actually lived up to its hype-- and that doesn't happen very often.   For me, it was a weekend of enforced relaxation!

It was surprisingly enjoyable. We were caught between 2 blizzards, back to back- one from Ontario, one from up the US eastern seaboard- so it was heavy snow and high winds for 48 hours. I think last tally was 50cm of snow - about 20 inches, give or take. There was a bout of freezing rain in between the 2 storms, which was beautiful to look at and dangerous to be out in. I had never seen such thick ice on my car -- impressive, really.

I have a hired company to plow me out, so other than my walk, my doorways and my car, I don't do snow removal. Everything was shut down, so I couldn't go anywhere and no one could drop in. (And thankfully, my niece didn't go into labour through all this!) We lost power overnight Saturday, but I slept through it.

So basically, I was a total shut in and I loved it. Books, TV, hot chocolate, jammies, cats, and a blanket. I did basic housework only, and was more relaxed on Monday than I have been in ages.

It's was glorious, sunny day today -- just beautiful. Blue skies, warming temps, and light breeze. The ice is falling from the trees, so it sounds like wind chimes, and the sun was blinding off the ice and snow. Just a good, old-fashioned winter storm aftermath.

I sure hope that groundhog is right, because I am SO ready for spring!!
