24. How willing are you to kill your characters if the plot so demands it? What's the most interesting way you've killed someone?

Ready, willing and able, SIR YES SIR.

Okay, that's...not entirely true. I was raised on comic books, and of my two big fandoms, one involves reincarnation (BSSM) while half the other's cast is dead in some way (Bleach). So it's more, "Can you kill your characters off for good?" To which I say...sorta?

For instance, I had a death planned in Moonchild that seemed both necessary to the plot and terribly crushing at the same time. Would that be the last appearance of the character, though? Probably not; they were a little too influential to pull out of the story narrative completely. When I was writing "Scars," a post-Bleach Bleach 'fic, I went round and round with my betas about which Karakura characters to off. Because they'd be "dead" but not really dead, you know? Not with the freely traveled ways between the two realms (or the freely traveled realms as I was positing them at the time, at least). So it was more about showing that the war had gotten to everyone rather than the emotional impact of killing them off for good.

And while you kill people in BSSM, they always show up again another day. So I don't feel too bad about what's planned for the end of certain 'fics, for instance.

I don't tend to kill characters in interesting ways, though. Have yet to drop a piano on anyone's head, run over anyone with a train, or toss anyone into a volcano, for instance. How characters kill other -characters--that's where it gets interesting. :) And I'll leave that there.

25. Do any of your characters have pets? Tell us about them.

Heh heh, I grew up with the "magical sidekick" idea firmly in my head, which means that yes, pet-like beasties are hanging around. Often talking. There's the wolf from the Reader stories, though he was less of Nyx's pet and more her companion; there's Q'ar from "The Beast," though she makes a good companion to Artemis and Luna; there's Emi from "Chemistry of the Dark Side"; and many others, I'm sure. Nowadays, people still get pets, though they don't tend to talk so much as be a projection for them to talk at. Or on. Or read looks from. As a cat owner, this would in no way be reflected in the author's real life, nooo, not at all. They do tend to be cats, though not because I have a preference for 'em; it's just that most of them are in apartments, which tend to be better suited to cat ownership.

So Logan has Mús the kitty in Moonchild, and Nym also has her own kitties. Morgan, I suspect, has a pet, too. And the beasties turn up in 'fic, too. My favorite is probably Yoruichi, the cat Ichigo and Rukia rescue in Covert (the spy-type AR). She's Rukia's cat, but lives with Ichigo, and she weaves her way in and out of scenes, always seeming like she knows more than the protagonists do. I don't think we ever settled on whether it was because she had a secret, or because she was just that kind of cat. They do exist! I have seen them in stories.

Oh! And I can't forget Ivan, the pregnant Great Dane. For lo, she is huge and awesome, and Svetka steals her from a whorehouse. But that is another story for another time. :)

I have also owned (well, part owned) dogs, a hamster, and some fish. Possibly one day, I will work one of those into a 'fic, too.
