CampCon Day the 2nd

Aug 26, 2008 08:13

In yesterday's post I forgot the foray into the IGA store in Parkdale for all the stuff we forgot to bring. That ended 2 block away at a little coffee shop that had Tillamook ice cream. LizzyShannon and I each had a small dish of reduced fat, no sugar added, pralines and cream. A wonderful decadent treat that is only half a sin.

Anyway, back to Saturday morning. A bright and clear dawn that painted the sky with layers of light that gradually deepened to deep blue that went on forever and at the same time seemed so close you could almost touch it.

Braving frigid temps to get to the bathroom, LizzyShannon and I decided to nurse our coffee and cold cereal inside the RV. After a few moments of sociability we retreated back to our laptops and got a ton of work done before radconbob requested company on his foray into Hood River for more stuff that got forgotten. I needed a break by then so I tagged along. We hit WalMart and Safeway and found all kinds of cool stuff to augment the menu. On the way back to the campground we also hit a few yard sales. He was looking for a frying pan for pancakes. Didn't find one. But he did score a neat wooden box of drawing supplies for $1. I found a PURPLE plastic Halloween table cloth for $.50. And no, martianmooncrab you can't have it.

After a fabuous lunch of stir fried Polish Sausage with crook neck squash, a little onion, green pepper and diced potato thrown in, It was back to work for me. Around 3 I'd had enough and went for a walk.

Found a trail that wandered around the perimeter of the campground. Not an easy trail to follow but clear enough. Me and my walking stick tromped around for a good hour. Plant life was really abundant, all the usual suspects. But I did note the Oregon Grape branches drooping with huge clusters of berries. The birds and bears are going to have a feast in about another week. Still a little too sour for humans.

Dinner was a kind of dry stew made with steak and mushrooms. And since there were no carbs in the meal I indulged in a tiny piece of chocolate silk pie. About this time the ladies camping across the road came over. They'd prepared too much and offered us fresh tomoatoes marinated with fresh basil and dabbed with bits of provolone. Lovely. The guys in our group of course had to reciprocate with left over pie.

Another quiet night around the campfire with good conversation. I retired early. Don't know what time the party broke up.
