"Brevity Is Wit"

Did you guys ever see that Simpsons episode where a banner is up with that saying? I think it's brilliant because it's making the original phrase ("Brevity is the soul of wit") even briefer...which is the joke.

Was thinking about this because apparently there's this thing called Twitter, which I do not use. FB status updates and Twitter have, I think, reduced LJ to a ghost town. But...why is that?

I heard some commentary on WTOP the other day saying how maybe the reason the 140 character limit to Twitter works so well is because....we, as a whole, don't have that much to say. So short snippets are plenty, and if you had any other thoughts you just had to get out, they'd probably be boring and nothing anyone would want to read anyhow.

There's an article in Wired magazine basically saying the same thing; that micro-blogging is taking off, YET the long-form blog is still holding steady. Plenty of people are reading essay-length writing. But, the middle-length blogging where someone posts a link and says a few sentences about it is suffering, maybe because condensing to 140 characters forces you to be witty...but if you really have something to say, go on with your bad self and write it.

Maybe we're all boring and empty-headed. Maybe you should have stopped reading this a long time ago!?

In other news, back's getting better. Many more thoughts but too much work to really sit and write at the moment. Love you all as usual....

OH I almost forgot! I'm going to learn how to play the Tabla! I put a nice intro pair on layaway from HMT, will pay the balance off next paycheck. Can't wait. Always loved Tabla, will keep you all posted....
