Supernatural Season Four
Because I have finished this season so quickly, I am compelled to create a My Thoughts thing. So here it is, by episode. It’s spoiler-tastic, so don’t read it if you haven’t seen the season. Excuse my occasionally incoherent squee.
Lazarus Rising Lazarus of Bethany, the more famous of the two Lazaruses, was a man from the Gospel of John who was raised from the dead by Jesus. The other Lazarus is from the parable ‘Lazarus and Dives’ in which Lazarus is a beggar who goes to heaven after a life of suffering and Dives is a rich man who goes to Hell after watching Lazarus suffer and doing nothing to help him.
Yes Actually, this whole episode was pretty much a big YES for me. Knowing that it was Castiel they were talking about the whole time, made it really cool. They were totally clueless and running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I can just picture Castiel in the background laughing at them. Except for when he burned out Pamela’s eyes. That was a huge B’AAAAAAAAAAW moment for me, cause I know he probably feels really guilty about it…
No So… when angels arrive, are the lights required to explode? Because that seems really inconvenient… Maybe it was just a big entrance to impress Dean? ALSO! They spent the whole episode with everyone racing around going, “OMGOMGOMG Castiel is coming! He’s so powerful what shall we do OMG!” But… then later… he’s not really all that high up in the hierarchy. In fact, I have no idea whether he’s a grunt or a higher up… The writers really need to find a way to classify angels like they do demons. :/
Are you there God? It’s Me, Dean Obvious reference to the Judy Blume book Are You There, God? It’s Me Margaret, in which a preteen girl tries to find a single religion as well as dealing with typically preteen troubles. I guess Dean is a little like a preteen girl?
Yes Um… Dean conflict is good? Bobby conflict is better! :D Iunno. This was a pretty typical adventure/plot establishing episode. Nothing really special here. ALSO! CAS! Maybe Dean doesn’t want to dream about you!
No I wish that this episode had had more Castiel. And not because he’s my favorite character. The title of the episode made it sound like Dean was going to confront his ideas about God and stuff, which I would assume involves at least some Cas!influence. But other then that one scene, it was more about the Raising of the Witnesses and stuff.
In The Beginning Obvious biblical reference is obvious.
Yes B’AAAAAAAAAAAAAW YOUR LIFE SUCKS MINOR CHARACTER #1… I MEAN DEAN’S MOM… ALSO! Castiel, you stalker you. ALSO! OMG PLOT TWIST
No Dean was incredibly stupid in this episode at the end. He’s like, “What happened?” and Castiel’s just, “Now you know everything we do,” and Dean does not appear to understand what he means by that at all. Come on writers, he’s not that dumb.
Metamorphosis Um… yeah. The guy turned into a monster. Whatever.
Yes B’AAAAAAAAAAAAW YOUR LIFE SUCKS MINOR CHARACTER #4. I think that maybe this episode started establishing the Destiny Sucks But That’s Life theme they had going through the whole season.
No I am not personally a fan of that theme. It’s extremely existentialist, especially because destiny never made anything good happen in the season. It’s like, “If you follow your destiny, your life will suck. But if you fight it and fight it and fight it, maybe your life will suck a little less.” BULLSHIT! Anyway. So, I really wanted Minor Character #4 to overcome the transform-y crap and he didn’t, so I was extremely disappointed.
Monster Movie Episode was filmed like a typical blacknwhite monster movie. Yep.
Yes B’AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW YOUR LIFE SUCKS MINOR CHARACTER #26. ALSO! They kept me guessing till around five minutes before the Winchesters figured everything out, which is always nice. They did a really good job of writing the friend as just a friend and not suspicious at all till the end. So, good job writers! ALSO! I was really sympathetic to the character. He/She (?) reminded me of the Phantom from the Phantom of the Opera and I really like that character.
No Destiny sucks theme again. Bleh. >_>

Yes First off, I’m gonna say I wasn’t really paying attention to this episode while I was watching it… So, the plot is kind of fuzzy in my head. I think there was B’AAAAAAW MINOR CHARACTER #48 but I’m actually not sure so anyway. Dean screaming like a little girl was friggin’ hilarious. This was the episode where I got the feeling everything bad was going to happen to Dean. By bad, I mean like Sam losing his shoe in the one episode about luck, not like kill-you-emo-bad.
No What relevance did this episode have to the plot?
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester OMG CHARLIE BROWN REFERENCE :DDDD However, boo for it having zero relevance to the actual plot. I hate that.
Yes Um… This episode had its moments like teh astronaut kid and Sam fangirling over Castiel. Haha. Silly Sam. Castiel is for Dean. The whole scene with Uriel and Castiel is hilarious merely because Sam and Uriel argue with each other and Castiel just stares at Dean. ALSO! Castiel!doubt :D
No OMG WRITERS! Do a little RESEARCH before you write crap like that! Samhain is a festival celebrating the end of the season NOT AN EVIL PAGAN GOD WTF! ALSO! It’s not even pronounced Sam-hayne. Jesus. Do a little research idiots. ALSO! Uriel. >_> ALSO! Why was that scene set in a playground? With little children? And Cas in a trench coat? I mean, there’s that scene and like every scene where Castiel and Uriel talk is set at a playground and then Castiel wants to use Claire instead of Jimmy later… :/ Castiel? Yes B’AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW YOUR LIFE SUCKS MINOR CHARACTER #79 and 80. ALSO! This episode was friggin’ hilarious! The whole first like three-quarters of it. And then with the b’aaw, nerds can never be happy.
No You’re stuck with what you’re born with even if it makes you unhappy AND you can never be happy. WTF existentialism. And, while the bear had potential to be hilarious, he actually just made me uncomfortable. :/

Yes Anna/Dean sex with Castiel handprint :D ALSO! I really really like how they established the angel vs demon vs fallen angel relationships. Like Anna is just an object to the demons but Uriel seems like he’s physically ill by the sight of her which is, I figure, a far more normal reaction for an angel. Then Castiel!doubt just grows and grows. He looks almost enamored with Anna by the end of it, except when he’s being jealous about the Dean/Anna kiss. ALSO! Anna/Dean on humanity was funny. ‘Chocolate cake. Guilt. Sex. Got me there.’ ALSO! ‘Four angels have seen God’ was aaaaawesome plus moar plot development. ALSO! Alastair choking Castiel :D
No Pamela has like ugly hate for angels now… ALSO! How would Anna’s mom know Anna’s name. Once she became an angel again, she should have had another name. ALSO! This was the first time the writers made Castiel less powerful. Before he was the leader and the most powerful in every situation, but in this episode the writers establish that he was subordinate to Anna AND that he isn’t strong enough to pull Alastair out. :/ So again, where is Castiel in teh hierarchy? ALSO! The hell writers!? Iunno. The whole Dean tortured people in Hell felt really, I don’t know, contrived. Like they just threw it on the end of the episode for the angst.

No. Dean’s credibility as a straight man is falling further and further away. I mean, Sam’s had like, what, seven or eight girlfriends plus sex scenes? Dean’s had… um… one. With an angel. And they didn’t actually have teh sex until Anna grabbed onto the Castiel handprint. Oh Dean. You’re falling behind.

Yes So much Castiel. Castiel in every one of his many many faces: Magic Car Alarm Stopper, sadface, seriousface, doubtface, guiltface, Anna/Cas hand touchy, rawrGOface, choke-yface, WTFSAMface, this face. Bwee :D ALSO! I’m sorry. This has to go in a separate section, but the Alastair/Castiel fight was fantabulous even though it was only like a minute long. With the knife twisting and then Alastair choking Castiel AGAIN, and trying to exorcise him, which was really well acted. Because Alastair looked really into it and Castiel wasn’t just like OMG HE’S EXORCISING ME, he was kind of confused about being stabbed, which btw hurt me when I saw it, then sort of tense then like WOAH WAITAMINUTE then shaking. :DDDDD Love that scene. ALSO! Littlesoldier Cas going to Anna for orders and the hospital scene *flail*
No Winchester wangst including Sam’s ‘He’s not strong enough’ bullshit ALSO! Anna can’t have the same body. What favors does she have to call in? ALSO! Castiel obviously hasn’t fought very much. There was a lot of wasted movement in his fight scenes…

Yes I really reeeeally like alternate universe and I was totally sure this episode was like the Star Trek Mirrorverse. So it was really cool. And Zachariah, haaaaahaaa.
No HOWEVER! Then it was actually for real. And had no relevance to the plot. -__- I really wanted the Winchesters in the new verse to be like Castiel and Anna or something and have them jump in after Dean and Sam have already beaten the ghost. But it was never meant to be. ;_;

No I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t really pay attention to this episode. It was kind of boring and there was moar Winchester wangst and I really wanted to get to the season finale. So yeah… By this point in the season the writer’s should be throwing themselves at the finale to build suspense and anticipation, not putting out this un-plot-related crap. -_-
The Rapture The second coming of God. There’s more stuff about different views and how it will happen, but the main point is: This title has nothing to do with the episode WTF.
Yes B’AAAAAAAAAAAAAAW YOUR LIFE SUCKS MINOR CHARACTER #300… I MEAN JIMMY! ALSO! Random fishing scene and paranoid Castiel and Jimmy’s waking up scene! OMG squee for world building, because Jimmy actually seemed to think he was Castiel at first before realizing he wasn’t anymore. So, souls merge during possession? Or Jimmy was trying to forget himself to block out the pain? Iunno, but YAY ALSO! Jimmy seizure :D And DisillusionedJimmy and OMGYOU’RESICKJIMMYTAKEPILLS *FLAIL* ALSO! Best. Cut to commercial. Ever. I think the best scene in the whole entire season was the one at the end, with Claire!Cas talking to Jimmy and Jimmy’s just like NO you can’t have her, take me! ;_; I almost cried. Misha Collins! You played three different characters in this episode and it was aaaaaaawesome.
No Moar Winchester wangst ALSO! TO PROVE MY FAITH, THE ANGEL OF THURSDAY ASKED ME TO STICK MY HAND IN A BOILING POT OF WATER :DD ALSO! They drag that coat around like it’s really important. :/ ALSO! Did Castiel actually THINK before deciding he was going to take Claire instead? I mean… really? How much can a thirteen year old girl do? BUT ANYWAY! Basically, I only had problems with fairly superficial things. I pretty much loooooved everything in this episode. :)
When the Levee Breaks This is a blues-rock song done about the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, the most destructive river flood in the United States. The song was later reworked by Led Zeppelin with different lyrics but a similar theme.

No MOAR WINCHESTER WANGST!!!!!!! I think that if they had gotten rid of the Jump the Shark episode and made the finale a two-parter there would have been a lot more suspense. Like, this episode was necessary for plot as was The Rapture, but not so much Jump the Shark. ALSO! SAM YOU BITCH! You can’t hit Bobby! D:

Yes Castiel~ Castiel and Dean~ ALSO! EVIL ANGELS YAY Not that I didn’t see it coming or anything, but still. Totally awesome reveal and everything. Squee. ALSO! The last conversation between Dean and Castiel before they go to the rescue. Especially with Dean finally making Cas look at him when he talks, cause he has avoided eyes for the entire season. Seeing Dean take control is really cool. And Dean’s face when he realizes he’s pushed Cas away too. ;_; ALSO! The little scared demon is freaking adorable.
No The episode felt incredibly rushed. Not good rushed, like the characters were in a hurry because they were, but bad rushed like the writer’s were in a hurry. ALSO! Zachariah talks about how the grunt angels don’t know anything about Teh Plan but Castiel knows about it… Where are you on the hierarchy Cas!?

Yes If you have somehow managed to miss this through this whole pathetic squee, I’m sorry, but CAAAAAAAAAAAAAASTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL *FLAIL* I DON’T KNOW HOW THEY WENT THREE SEASONS WITHOUT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!! But anyway. The season was really good for the most part. I mean, the plot really swept it along, so when there were episodes that weren’t important to it, they were boring or poorly done. But other then that, YAY.
No Once again, the Winchester wangst was really irritating by the end. Yeah I get it Sam, you have demon blood and you think you have to save the world. Doesn’t really excuse your choices, or your jumping into things without research. Yeah I get it Dean, you tortured people in Hell and now you feel awful about it. I don’t really need to be reminded about it constantly kthnx. If they turn it into Winchester + Angel wangst next season I’m gonna be really irritated. Castiel doesn’t deserve that, and the Winchesters deserve a break from it.

I’m sorry. This has to go in a separate section, but the Alastair/Castiel fight was fantabulous even though it was only like a minute long. With the knife twisting and then Alastair choking Castiel AGAIN, and trying to exorcise him, which was really well acted. Because Alastair looked really into it and Castiel wasn’t just like OMG HE’S EXORCISING ME, he was kind of confused about being stabbed, which btw hurt me when I saw it, then sort of tense then like WOAH WAITAMINUTE then shaking. :DDDDD Love that scene. ALSO! Littlesoldier Cas going to Anna for orders and the hospital scene *flail*

No I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t really pay attention to this episode. It was kind of boring and there was moar Winchester wangst and I really wanted to get to the season finale. So yeah… By this point in the season the writer’s should be throwing themselves at the finale to build suspense and anticipation, not putting out this un-plot-related crap. -_-

OMG squee for world building, because Jimmy actually seemed to think he was Castiel at first before realizing he wasn’t anymore. So, souls merge during possession? Or Jimmy was trying to forget himself to block out the pain? Iunno, but YAY ALSO! Jimmy seizure :D And DisillusionedJimmy and OMGYOU’RESICKJIMMYTAKEPILLS *FLAIL* ALSO! Best. Cut to commercial. Ever. I think the best scene in the whole entire season was the one at the end, with Claire!Cas talking to Jimmy and Jimmy’s just like NO you can’t have her, take me! ;_; I almost cried. Misha Collins! You played three different characters in this episode and it was aaaaaaawesome.

Did Castiel actually THINK before deciding he was going to take Claire instead? I mean… really? How much can a thirteen year old girl do? BUT ANYWAY! Basically, I only had problems with fairly superficial things. I pretty much loooooved everything in this episode. :)

No MOAR WINCHESTER WANGST!!!!!!! I think that if they had gotten rid of the Jump the Shark episode and made the finale a two-parter there would have been a lot more suspense. Like, this episode was necessary for plot as was The Rapture, but not so much Jump the Shark. ALSO! SAM YOU BITCH! You can’t hit Bobby! D:

Yes Castiel~ Castiel and Dean~ ALSO! EVIL ANGELS YAY Not that I didn’t see it coming or anything, but still. Totally awesome reveal and everything. Squee. ALSO! The last conversation between Dean and Castiel before they go to the rescue. Especially with Dean finally making Cas look at him when he talks, cause he has avoided eyes for the entire season. Seeing Dean take control is really cool. And Dean’s face when he realizes he’s pushed Cas away too. ;_; ALSO! The little scared demon is freaking adorable.
No The episode felt incredibly rushed. Not good rushed, like the characters were in a hurry because they were, but bad rushed like the writer’s were in a hurry. ALSO! Zachariah talks about how the grunt angels don’t know anything about Teh Plan but Castiel knows about it… Where are you on the hierarchy Cas!?

Yes If you have somehow managed to miss this through this whole pathetic squee, I’m sorry, but CAAAAAAAAAAAAAASTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL *FLAIL* I DON’T KNOW HOW THEY WENT THREE SEASONS WITHOUT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!! But anyway. The season was really good for the most part. I mean, the plot really swept it along, so when there were episodes that weren’t important to it, they were boring or poorly done. But other then that, YAY.
No Once again, the Winchester wangst was really irritating by the end. Yeah I get it Sam, you have demon blood and you think you have to save the world. Doesn’t really excuse your choices, or your jumping into things without research. Yeah I get it Dean, you tortured people in Hell and now you feel awful about it. I don’t really need to be reminded about it constantly kthnx. If they turn it into Winchester + Angel wangst next season I’m gonna be really irritated. Castiel doesn’t deserve that, and the Winchesters deserve a break from it.
