I saw the movie the other day and this threesome popped out at me like woah. Then I stumbled across this little drabble challenge and decided to try my hand at it. Here's the rules, taken from
Supaslim:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn your music player on and turn it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabblet/ficlet related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterward! No matter how whacked out your drabble is. :)
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
1 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy) (1:49)
When Dan kissed Rorschach, it was like time stopped. Just for a moment. Time let go.
Laurie watched, not entirely sure how she felt about this whole mess. Then Rorschach jerked under Dan and her eyes lingered a little too long where they came together.
Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Why no. I had no idea what to do with Feelin’ Groovy because no one feels groovy at the end of The Watchmen. But the first line of the song and got time slowing down in my head.
2 ?? (4:46)
The first time she went out with them, crime busting, not on a date or anything, they spent most of the night laughing. Which of course wasn’t really true because Rorschach never laughed.
But she and Dan giggled and told jokes like it was important. The radio fizzled loudly and they would listen, but it was always nothing. Just another robbery already being handled. Rorschach’s shoulders tightened every time though. He wanted something to happen.
But hey, a slow night was a slow night right? Why not enjoy it while it lasted? Then as the sun began to rise Dan told some off-hand story and Rorschach didn’t laugh. But he chuckled, very softly. She smiled. He was trying to belong. Maybe he wanted to be with them more then he let on. That was okay.
She and Dan welcomed him over to the console.
I actually have no idea what this song is. It’s JPop and it’s from Inuyasha. That’s all I know. The tone was really upbeat and there is a recurring line about belonging so…
3 Martha’s Quest // Murray Gold (3:19)
He came home, stomped through the door, hands in his pockets. Angry. Dan reached out to touch his shoulder and he pulled back.
“What happened?” he whispered because he knew. He should have gone with him. The one night he didn’t… Of course something would happen the one night…
Rorschach turned his mask to him and Dan could feel his glare radiating through the cloth. “Nothing. Late night.” His voice was gruff. It was always gruff.
Doctor Who =/= Watchmen… But the song was kind of ominous so… Rorschach coming home after the dog incident…
4 I Still Miss Someone // Johnny Cash (2:37)
They missed him. Forever and always. It just wouldn’t go away.
They expected him, all the time. On the corner. Walking down the newly rebuilt street. His soft blue eyes (because they were soft even if he wasn’t) shining out of every face.
Whenever Laurie turned to Dan, pointing out some little redhead, he took her hand and shook his head. He kissed her so soft like forgiveness.
At my door the leaves are falling
A cold wild wind Will come
Sweethearts walk by together
And I still miss someone
But I find a darkened corner
'Cause I still miss someone
Oh, no I never got over those blues eyes
I see them every where
I couldn’t find inspiration from this song. And Laurie comes across as stupid… blar this is awful.
5 Believe // Cher (3:58)
No one would have guessed. Daniel and Laurie made themselves such a normal life. They married, nice and quiet. The press got wind of it though and hounded them for weeks afterwards. Why did they marry? What would their kids do? On and on.
Rorschach would have hated it.
Sometimes they talked about him at the diner. That was the only time they let on about it. It was one of those private hurts. Laurie personally got a little sick of it. Sure she liked him. Just a little.
But Dan. Dan loved him, loved him so much it hurt her. She knew when he gazed at the ceiling at night, he was thinking of him.
Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me say
I really don't think you're strong enough,
-snerk- The shift between ‘ they missed him’ in the previous drabble to ‘Dan missed him’ in this one makes me laugh.
6 Rose Defeats the Daleks // Murray Gold (2:30)
Jon does one thing more for the earth after he leaves. He brings Rorschach back, pulls all of his molecules out of the snow and reassembles them on American soil. He gives those molecules that little spark that makes life and Walter Kovacs breathes for the first time in a month.
His legs wobble and he clutches at himself. He is naked on a December evening.
Again, Doctor Who =/= Watchmen… But this song had a weird mystical-y feel to it so Jon had to be involved somehow. Obviously. >>
7 Ruby Blue // Roisin Murphy (2:47)
It’s on the tip of his tongue. The one fact. The one thing he needs to say. To both of them.
They are standing waiting for him to finish his idea. Laurie has an eyebrow cocked. Rorschach has his head tilted just slightly, in a way that he knows means he’s cocking an eyebrow too. “Um… I mean…”
How can they do this to him? He a frickin superhero! But here he is, tongue-tied. One second. Two seconds.
“Never mind.”
You'd better stop
And try to think
Look what you're doing
Why do you make a start
With no means to go on?
It's on the tip of your…
One
Two
Three
OMG, so random. That countdown would have gone to three seconds, but the song sounded like it was ending and I needed Dan to say Never mind at the end… Is that cheating?
8 Let Your Troubles Roll By // Carbon Leaf (5:26)
Rorschach gives better massages then Laurie wants to give him credit for. She tries to deny it, but she’s leaning into his fingers too much to hide that she likes it. She knows he’s going to back off soon. She’s getting a little too close.
He’s never been comfortable with her. Rather, he’s never been comfortable with body contact, whether it’s her or Dan. But she notices it particularly with her.
And just like clockwork he pulls his hands and his body away. She looks out the window to the little flowerbed. There are flowers starting to grow. They were almost frozen during the winter.
She has given up crying long ago. When he leaves she smiles lightly and knows he’ll come back eventually. Meanwhile, Dan comes out of the kitchen and glances at the door. “He stayed longer then usual,” he murmurs after a minute.
“I think he’s starting to accept this life. It’s not crime fighting. But it’s something right?” Dan smiles. She kisses him back.
Like the perfect song, at imperfect times
It's the way the chords struck with the rhymes
So let your troubles roll by...
He knows he can help himself
He can tell by a look at the books on his shelf
And she dreams of sunflowers bent-over
Frozen in snow, and thinks 'Colorado.. ?'
But then plays her life back in slow motion
To keep in touch with that raw emotion
You've come far, and though you're far from the end
You don't mind where you are, cause you know where you've been
So this song starts out all sweet and I got the image of Rorschach and Laurie in a bedroom in like a log cabin… And then the massage thing… The bit about her crying was just to acknowledge the line When your tears dry/Let your troubles roll by. Yeah…
9 I Saw The Light // Earl Scruggs (3:43)
None of them go to church. Ever. In fact, when they come across a church, they very often cross the street.
Maybe it’s guilt. They are, after all, living in sin. Oh goodness, they are a happy united threesome. Jesus wouldn’t approve. He rarely does.
Lauri scoffs and lights a cigarette as she watches all the old women scurrying through the church doors. “Why are we sitting here anyway?”
Dan reaches to take her cigarette from her and she smacks his hand away. “Rorschach’s newsstand is just on the corner. There.” He points.
“He should get a new newsstand.”
Pff. This song came on and I was just like… WTF!? They wouldn’t go to church!
10 Finale // Graeme Revell (0:57)
Laurie wasn’t there when Rorschach died. But she heard Dan scream. It stung, all the way down to her guts.
The angst poured out of this song. All three sentences of it.
Haha! That was really fun! Except for alkjsdflj my iPod shuffled crappy music for me! I haven’t listened to half of these songs in a bazillion years, if ever! And all of these drabbles ended up related to the songs in a really vague way…
Oh, and also, I haven’t finished the comic. So the ending that I know is movie!verse. Sorry if that squicks you. *meek*
