So I'm not going in any order, so Legally Blonde is what I wanted to do next ;)
so my grandma and I student rushed it (obviously, I was the student. heheh) and it was SO WORTH getting up at 7 and sitting in line for about 2 and a half hours. We had perfect seats, and the show was just too damn adorable.
(and spoiler warning, for the last couple songs, there's some things that are slightly different in the musical than the movie. Although though they're basically revealed in the cast recording, but if you haven't listened to it and you're trying to protect yourself from any spoilers..you might want to skip reading like the last two)
Omigod You Guys!: Was so much fun. Annaleigh Ashford is way cute. And I love the set- I'm easily amused, but I thought it was cool when they all flung open the windows at the same time. And yaaay Laura Bell Bundy. So great.
Serious: Soo Richard H. Blake is pretty hott, and seems quite likeable, so I didn't really find myself getting mad at Warner. But I think that also has to do with how the song is, because at least to me, he seems more like he really doesn't want to break up with her, and he just generally comes off as a lot sweeter than in the movie. But that's just my opinion.
What You Want: So before seeing the show, I thought the concept of this song was kind of dumb (they all go to Harvard and dance around instead of sending an essay?) but it completely worked in the show, because while it IS over-the-top, it's obviously supposed to be. So it ends up just being really funny. And there's one part, where she's studying for the LSATs, that there's a bunch of shirtless guys dancing around. So that was fun, too. :P
The Harvard Variations: Not too much to say about this song, but it's fairly amusing. The whole Elle-arriving-at-Harvard thing was cute, with some really funny dialogue. Bahh, the whole show's funny.
Blood in the Water: Parts of this song were kind of funny, but it was probably my least favorite. Not bad, just not that interesting. The only slightly-main understudy we had was for Callahan- I never heard the original one, so I can't accurately compare, but I thought the guy we saw was fine.
Positive: Haha I loved this song. (I'd only heard a few of the songs beforehand, so this was my first experience with most of them) It was really funny, although I did have trouble hearing some of the words- I don't know if the music was kind of overpowering them, or what, I don't remember why. But it was still good. And I like Leslie Kritzer (Serena) a lot.
Ireland: Orfeh kicks so much ass. I loved her. The song itself was pretty, although I did kind of wonder where the whole "Ireland" idea randomly came from. But it was cute.
Serious (reprise): Like senior year, but funner. And that's all I have to say about that.
Chip on my Shoulder: Haha. I have a lot of various things to say about this song. First of all, the beginning ("love. I put my faith in love, I followed where it led- to my personal circle of hell," etc.) was hilarious, and Laura Bell Bundy is adorable-ness personified. Secondly- I had my doubts about how I would like Christian Borle as Emmett- not that I doubted his talent or anything, I just didn't think he'd fit the character. But he definitely proved me wrong. He did a great job with Emmett, and he has a really nice voice, and I just loved him, especially in this song. And actually, I had more stuff to say, but I could gush on about this song for a while, so..I just won't. :)
So Much Better: aweoirajsdfljao so great. I already loved this song, but it was amazing live, and LBB is so frickin talented. I couldn't stop smiling all throughout the song, and even when it ended and intermission started, I was just sitting there smiling like a dork :P
Intermission: ...I bought a shirt :)
Whipped Into Shape: yay, first appearance of Nikki Snelson, who was awesome. I loved the choreography for this song- and quite a catchy tune, as well. heheh. At one point, it Nikki kind of lost one end of her jumprope, but she covered it well and just kept jumping.
Take It Like A Man: So it seems like all I can say about this show is "omgcute" and "omgsofunny" but really..it's all true! And this song was really sweet, too. It had kind of the first major aww-Elle-and-Emmett thing (although there was a little of that in Chip on My Shoulder).
Bend and Snap: ahhaha. love. Everyone in the cast is so awesome. But once again, Orfeh is just too amazing.
There! Right There!: Oh my. So really, I'm SO glad that I didn't know most of these songs before I saw the show, because for me this song was so unexpected and hilarious.
Legally Blonde: So sad! This is a really pretty song, and LBB acts and sings it so well. I felt so bad, I just wanted to give her a hug. And Christian Borle, again, is awesomeness.
Legally Blonde Remix: YESSS Kate Shindle. She's so frickin good, I wish she had more than one song (and even this whole song isn't technically hers, since everyone else joins in after her verse or two) and not to mention she's frreaking gorgeous (well, she is a former Miss America..). But everyone else was good too :P This show has a really strong ensemble.
Omigod You Guys (reprise): hahah. I thought it was interesting that instead of having it in the courtoom, they all went to the bathroom where the shower supposedly took place. But the whole "Let's all go the bathroom!" scene, before they actually went, was cute. Y'know, Warner doesn't have that many lines in the show, but the ones he does have are almost all really funny. (that doesn't just apply to this song, but he has a couple funny lines in the scene before it, so I thought I'd just throw it in here)
Find My Way: Aww. I was kind of surprised that they had Elle and Warner parting on really sweet and friendly terms, as opposed to in the movie, where she's basically just like "screw you." But I liked it, because as I said, I found Warner to be a much more likeable character in the musical than in the movie. So it was good.
Finale: Eeee. Cuteness. Another change from the movie to the musical, that I found way cute, was that they had Elle propose to Emmett. It kind of brings the whole thing full-circle in a sweet sort of way. And it's so fitting that the last word in the show is "Omigod!"
Stage Door: A ton of people didn't come out..it was mostly ensemble members (who were all awesome, and really nice) and the guy who played Callahan. But Noah Weisberg was my favorite ensemble member, because he told me I looked lovely and that he liked my outfit. :P So I told him that he looked lovely too :) ..and my grandma told him that she liked his hair. hahah. And unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures. So...the end :)
