...so just to really confuse everyone before I finished up with the flashback chapters, I went and wrote one about how Kurogane met Fye.

Uh, yeah, I think that's about all I can say in introduction to this one this week. >.>

(You have no idea how much getting this comment brightened my evening last night. <3 And just when I was stuck on the next part and needed encouragement too.)

You! I see what you did thar! You kept me so distracted with hints of everyone else's backstories that I never realized that Kuro-tan's might be the most intriguing of all!

<.< Well, maaaaybe a little. ^_~ (In truth, even I had everyone else's backstories largely mentally plotted before one of my RL holic friends went and handed me a few interesting facts that wound up explaining just what Kurogane's was going to be and why it was going to be so important, so it was a bit of a surprise on my end too. *cough* But not an unpleasant one for any of us.) Naturally all shall be revealed in time.

But the real joy of this chapter is Fye's dialogue, in all his playful and erudite glory. (Better than the original, in my opinion -- and gods, I'm finding post-Acid Tokyo a slow slog without Fye's playfullness.) Recently-former acquaintances and unscheduled exits, hallelujah and amen. ^__^

And I'm really glad you liked it so much. ^_^ He's quite fun to write for when he's in the mood, but he and Kurogane are still a lot more work for me to find voices for than the main characters I'm more used to. (Yeah, I'm missing Fye's playfullness quite a bit lately too. I don't mind a bit of angst, but the changes he's been through lately have been a bit on the steep side.)

And I'm hoping Fye is such a good judge of character that he knows Kuro is honorable and trustworthy -- but finding it more likely that the poor boy is so desperate not to be alone that he'd cling to the first likely character, and then make sure that Kuro doesn't need to look to Chi for anything besides computing.

Fye (as I mentioned above) may actually have some unusual reasons of his own for how he took the situation, but it's worthwhile to speculate that his ways of dealing with Kurogane were as much his own way of testing how Kuro might react as they were about expecting to get any particular response out of him. *g* The contrast between how Kurogane met Fye and how Doumeki met Watanuki is also something I wanted to make sure was pretty strong, even though there are also a few obvious similarities.

I do find myself craving some more Doumeki and Watanuki. All the backstory chapters have been enthralling, and I'd keep reading even if you had Doumeki and Watanuki spontaneously combust and everything else was to be about Sakura and Syaoran, Kuro and Fye and Kohane -- but I miss my boys.

Well, not to worry - they'll be back next chapter, which I hope I can get finished off soon. I'm getting up to some rather... important scenes between them, and editing them into a shape I'm happy with is getting harder because these are some of those bits you really want to make sure you're doing right... >.>
