Okay, I actually have a moment to breathe!
Writercon was freaking amazing. I'm still going "SQUEEEE!!!" at random moments.
The absolute best part of the weekend was meeting everybody. I truly apologize if I've forgotten anyone -- my notebook is out in the car! :( But meeting
theantijoss,
jade_okelani,
alleynyc,
margotlefaye,
indiefic,
tangofic,
chrisleeoctaves,
callaxx,
nikitangel,
darkrhiannon,
drusillageek,
regala_electra,
neverneverfic, and many, many others was so fantastic.
Without them, Writercon would have been sort of fun, kinda maybe. I know this because I spent Thursday evening in the hospitality suite, before I found everyone. While it was fascinating, there's no way it could compare to discussing B/A and Angel and fandom and Harry Potter and everything else for hours in
theantijoss' room with everybody else.
The trip to the forum shops, cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory, the B/A table at the shindig (we were a small group, but mighty!), lounging in the pool at Caesar's, and dinner at the Mirage on Sunday -- that was what made my weekend. And hee... looking around the table and seeing everyone else's claddaghs made me smile.
I still consider myself a newbie to this fandom, and I really am compared to many of the people I met this weekend. Hearing about the early days of Buffy and the fandom was really great, and just seeing that there are other people who care as deeply as I do for these poor, broken characters... in an abstract way, I've known that I'm not the only one, but to be able to meet all these people who are real, I'm so sick of people telling me that my online friendships aren't "real" -- well, dammit, they are now!
And now I even know that there's people within "hey, wanna go see a movie tonight?" distance of me! Yay!
Oh, yeah, the actual "writer" part of Writercon... the writer's block panel was easily the most useful one. I've got pages of notes from that one, which I'll probably type up and share. The erotica panel would have been better without some of the pretentious people who were on it, but
theantijoss' workshop was wonderful (there's a couple books I'll be going out to buy on my next payday...)! I've got a drabble from the drabble workshop and a Willow/Tara minificlet from the writer's block one that I need to type up and post, but again, notebook in the car.
Driving home was even cool -- there was a beautiful thunderstorm which was amazing to watch (except for the ten minutes when I was in it, when I was going "Oh God, oh God, flash floods, oh God..."), and then I saw a shooting star.
I have to get back to work now, but more details (and hopefully pictures) will be forecoming!
