Home from the lake. Mom and I got home last night, but I was too tired to post. Dad's still out there, and will be home... tomorrow? Thursday? I forget.

We missed the big fireworks show because we had to come home yesterday, on the 4th -- work sucks. But they had a show on Saturday, so that was cool. I think they may have had technical difficulties, though. There were several pauses of two or three seconds that seemed odd, and then there was a distinct lack of finale. It's difficult to tell, though, because the fireworks show is over the strip, and we were on the lake, a couple miles from Laughlin. But there was still plenty of pretty fireworks.

And then, when we found our way back to the beach where all our stuff was set up (navigating a lake at night in a boat without headlights to find a dark beach is difficult), the drunken assholes on the beach next to us were lighting illegal fireworks.

Imagine a desert that's been baking at 115 degrees all day, full of brush that burns like gasoline. Then imagine 12 drunken idiots lighting illegal fireworks! Thankfully, they managed to aim them out over the water a good 80-90% of the time.

Except for the one they accidentally aimed at us. It was one of those spinning, buzzing, flower type fireworks that skip across the ground. Only it came skipping through the air right across our boat. I was sitting in the very back of the boat and I felt the heat of it -- it couldn't have been farther than a foot from me. If I'd been standing, it would have caught me full in the face.

I can't remember my response, but I believe it was along the lines of "What the fuck was that?"

Their response? "Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to do that."

Assholes.

Anyway, now that I'm all worked up over it again, I gotta calm down and go to work.

Oh, ever wonder how many people could fit on the flat roof of a houseboat? The answer is too damn many. And that's only about 3/4 of the roof -- the rest of it that's out of frame is just as packed. I thought the freaking roof was gonna cave in!

That's Memorial Day, by the way, not 4th of July. The Saturday of Memorial Day weekend is always the craziest day of the year. It's the first 3 day weekend of the season, and there's way too many people and way too much alcohol, and that occasionally leads to things like nudity, public sex, and brawling.

The rest of the summer, people remember how crazy it was that day, and they stay away. So there's not nearly as much craziness after Memorial Day.

One last thing... I'm looking for a new digital camera to take to Ocean Isle Beach in a few weeks (Squee!). I'd like to get one of the new small ones with the metal casing. I'm sort of leaning towards either a Sony or a Canon -- the camera I have now is a Sony, and I love it, and my uncle works for Canon, and the one he has (that he got as an incentive/reward, lucky bastard) kicks ass. I just don't know which way to go. Anyone have any recommendations? Or anyone want to warn against any particular brand or camera?
