"Fly me to the moon, let me play among the stars..."

Oct 20, 2007 00:50

This is pathetic. There’s so much to write about, and I can’t really remember all that much anymore. My memories... fading... unless I write them down. I apologize, but of course, these are my memories, so it is more of my loss, isn’t it?

Monday (October 1), I went to the Student Center and tried out for the shadow cast that will be performing in front of the screen while Rocky Horror is being shown at Pruis Hall on Halloween. I got a part, yes, but I am not revealing who I will be portraying. I then had time to go to Swing Society, but everyone else got partners and I felt very out of the loop. I paired up with another girl, and she lead while I followed, and we were learning dips. It was very amusing, considering I was much taller than her.

Tuesday, I returned for callbacks for Rocky Horror, though there really was no need to. Unfortunately, we were still short on people, especially males. The director’s pretty shoddy, too, so things are looking absolutely great there (sarcasm).

Wednesday, I had my first teaching observation at Burris Laboratory School. Another English education major in my math class had one too, so we sat at the back of the room and watched the class together.

There was supposed to be another flash mob in the Atrium, where we would be playing air guitar to “Purple Haze.” I think, perhaps, one of the coolest things about the flash mobs at Ball State is that if you know the same sort of people in the crowd, there’s a sort of intensity in the air right before the flash mob occurs. I made eye contact with Mike, who’s in my building, and we nodded at each other. We knew what was going on. But then the time came and went, and the music never started, so we departed.

Wednesday was also Krista’s birthday, and Becca, Nick, Kristin, and Sarah decorated her room. I was supposed to be there too, but I got out of math class late, so I ended up walking with Krista to her room while they were waiting to surprise her.

Thursday was Jack’s birthday, and Friday evening, Kristin, Chris, Nick, Sarah, and I went out to eat at Carlos O’ Kelly’s. Sarah and I missed the concert that Danny was playing in, and I felt bad about it, but it was okay. He showed up later in the lounge, fresh from the concert, still in his tux. He was hungry and all the food places were closed, and Sarah gave him some crackers, but then took them away from him because he wouldn’t give her a hug. I said that I had food in my room, and so he walked over to my room with me, and I opened up my box of food for him. He settled on popcorn, and he popped it in my microwave and then we returned to Botswin. Then, Sarah wanted to go climb Timmy. Danny wasn’t going to climb a tree in his tux, obviously, so Chris and Sarah walked in the direction of Timmy, while I walked with Danny to Studebaker West (Stu West). He changed, and I looked at his movies and books. Chris called right when we were leaving, and I had just opened the door and hit my elbow on the wardrobe. What a klutz I am!

We climbed Timmy, and Danny had to leave us early. We rhen decided to go back to Botswin and watch a movie. Well, Nick was playing Midnight Soccer, and Chris and Sarah stayed in the lounge. Kristin drove Blake, Tanner, and me to the video store, which was closed, so we returned to campus with Blake going nuts and screaming out the window the whole time. He’s an odd one.

We ended up making nests, and I was snuggled between Brian and Dan. We watched Noises Off, and I fell asleep during it. Afterwards, Nick and Sarah wanted to watch Rocky Horror, so we watched that and I tried to teach them all the audience participation lines I could remember. It was about 3:00 in the morning, and Nick and I were the only people up and jumping around, dancing the Time Warp. Haha.

Saturday, I was supposed to go to Jack’s birthday party, but I couldn’t make it because I had tickets to see The Wild Party. Krista and I went together, and it was a lot of fun. Afterwards, we met Kristin and Nick and Sarah and a lot of other people at Late Nite. We ended up going to Krista’s room and playing Super Smash Bros. and hanging out.

On Sunday, Jack was bored, and I was bored, so he drove up to Ball State and hung out with me and Sarah for a bit. It was good to see him again.

This next week was Homecoming Week. Monday (October 8, if you’re keeping up with me), I had rehearsal for Rocky Horror, and we had some blocking accomplished, but for a while my character was switched, and then it was switched back to what I was before. It was all crazy. I was just happy to have it end early so I could get to sleep at a decent time. Sort of.

Hmm... Tuesday... oh yes, Tuesday. My English class was cancelled. So I ate lunch with Sarah and then went straight to the Botswin lobby. I was bored, and Kylie came by. Her 2:00 class was cancelled too, and she was bored. It was a beautiful day, and we bought crackers from La Follette, sat by the duck pond, and fed the ducks. Then, we went to the mall. I hadn’t intended to, but I tried on a dress. A little black dress... and it fit me perfectly. So, I bought it, and I look absolutely gorgeous in it, though I haven’t had a chance to formally wear it yet, though.

Kylie and I returned to campus and ate dinner, and then I hung out in Botswin some more. In fact, Tuesday, I was out of my room for twelve hours straight...

Wednesday. I had class, and then to Botswin for a little bit. I had dinner with a small group, including Sarah, Nick, and Mike. We returned to Botswin, and I was there until late into the evening. I was having a nice discussion with Danny, and then I looked at my watch and noticed I had to do laundry in fifteen minutes. Austin said, “Well, you only live right over in Schmilson,” and I said, “Hey, you’re right. I do just live over there...” and I ran over to my dorm, put my first load of laundry in the washer, and returned to Botswin. When a half an hour passed, I knew I would be putting my laundry in the dryer and wouldn’t be returning. So, I invited Danny up to my room to hang out. He stayed until midnight. It was quite nice.

I guess I should talk about Danny, shouldn’t I? Well, he’s from Fort Wayne, a freshman like most of the people I’ve been meeting, and even though his dorm is across campus, he hangs out in the Botswin lounge because his friends are there, much like myself. He’s a music education major, and has a wide variety of musical tastes. He plays the French horn, he plays in the band at Ball State, and in high school, he was a big part of his marching band, and he traveled during the summer with a drum corp. His sister is a freshman at his old high school, and she’s in the band, and so he tries to support her as much as he can.

Well, anyway, Thursday after class, I called my mom. My glasses had fallen off my face during English class, and the one of the lens had popped out. I was able to repair them, but I told her that really, all I want for Christmas is a new pair of glasses. Mom said she had a job interview in Muncie, so she would be available. It had become very, extremely cold recently, so I asked her to bring me some warm clothes, though I didn’t have any sweatshirts. Then, I went to the lounge and my phone’s battery died.

I ended up in a cuddle nest with Teddy, Brian, and Austin, and then Austin left and Nick came in, and then Dan joined, and being the only girl in the nest is a very, VERY awesome thing. I felt very loved.

Mom came and we went shopping. I bought three new shirts and a new black sweatshirt, and it all makes me very happy. I returned to campus, grabbed food, and then said goodbye to Mom and ate in my room.

After eating, I went with Sarah, Kristin, and Danny to Air Jam, where different teams perform and lip-synch to music. It was hilarious, and I lost my voice. Afterwards, as well as not having a voice, I almost passed out in the lounge. The world was swimming like crazy in front of my eyes, and it was something I wasn’t used to.

Friday, I had class, and then I grabbed lunch with Krista at the student center. We took our food and walked a little down Riverside, where they were holding the bed races. We were near the finish line, and we ate and took pictures. I saw Danny standing a few feet away, and I caught his eye and he came over and stood with us.

I think the best part about bed races was watching Myschurstyama, the team made up of Hurst guys led by Brady. The whole team was dressed in cardboard samurai armor, and they were awesome. I passed on some great shots to Brady, and he was happy to see them.

Friday evening, Sarah, Ruu, Kristin, Erin, and I went shopping. Danny picked Sarah, Ruu, and I up at Wal-Mart, and then we dropped Ruu off back at the dorms because she had to be somewhere at a certain time. Then, the three of us went to Best Buy, and though it was tempting, I didn’t purchase anything.

I had to return to campus quickly, as Jennifer was coming to visit. She called me just as we pulled into the parking lot, and I ran around like a crazy person in order to flag her down and assure her that, yes, she was going the right way. I introduced her to Sarah and Danny, and then we went inside Botswin and she got to see Nick and meet a bunch of our new friends. We played a nice large game of Signs, and then around 12:30, we went over to Schmidt/Wilson. After midnight, you have to sign people in as your guests, so I ended up checking eleven people into my building under my name as guests. That was insane. I’m sure that the poor guy at the check-in desk wanted to murder me. Kayla wasn’t there, as she left Friday morning to go to Wisconsin to visit family, and I joined Brian and Sarah in the making of cookies while everyone else stayed in my room.

Well, something in the oven that was not the cookies started burning, and the smoke alarm went off. We were waving the towels in front of the smoke detector, making it stop. That is when we decided that we were done baking cookies, and our group ate the rest of the raw cookie dough. I’m just lucky that the big fire alarm didn’t sound, because it was 1:00 in the morning and the people in my building would have mutilated me...

We returned to Botswin and had a massive nest. It was nice and cuddly. Eventually, I decided that it was time to get some sleep, so Jennifer and I went back to my room and fell asleep around 5:00.

I had told Jennifer that when she woke up, she could nudge me. I had no idea that when I partially opened my eyes, that she would be standing over me, and that startled me. Apparently, she was just about to nudge me, but was distracted by the photographs on my wall. I wasn’t ready to get out of bed yet, so I signed her on to the wireless network and slept for about forty-five more minutes.

I opened the door, ready to take my shower, and Jennifer was behind me. Autumn saw me and asked me about a ring that I did, in fact, find in the kitchen the previous night. Then I looked at the person standing next to her, who was Patrick. I clung to my towel, slightly embarrassed, hoping that my towel wouldn’t slip for fear of exposure.

We joined up with Krista, Chris, and Nick for lunch, and then we walked around and climbed Timmy in the daylight, for once. Although it was odd that a fork I was able to shimmy up into in the middle of the night, I wasn’t able to climb into while I could actually see what was in front of me.

Jennifer left at a quarter to 5:00, and then I joined a nice large group for the third and final Humans vs. Zombies mission, which was a modified version of capture the flag. It was all fun and games until some people started showing off their jackassery, Though I will admit, the end of the game was epic, with twenty-eight zombies swarming in down upon five humans, there was much yelling of profanity at some (particularly one) of the whiny-ass participants.

After the game, my Johnson zombie horde and I returned to the Botswin lounge. Danny and David were awaiting the results of their high school’s score in a big band competition. We were comparing it to the look husbands get while waiting for news about their wives in the delivery room. The news was good, though, as the band is competing tomorrow in Indianapolis at the state competition. Danny was as happy, if not happier, than a child at Christmas.

Well, after that excitement, Danny and I went to my room and watched Requiem for a Dream. What an intense film! It was beautiful, but so tragic and just... wow. At the end of the film, we were sitting on my futon, and I was near speechless. We were rather depressed afterwards, so we put Corpse Bride in and watched that. When Corpse Bride was over, we just laid on the futon, despite how uncomfortable it was, and fell asleep together. It was quite sweet.

Around 8:50 Sunday morning, I got a phone call. I forgot to turn off my phone, so it was ringing, and I was not too happy about that. I croaked out, “Who the FUCK is calling me right now?” As it turns out, it was Dawn. I didn’t answer. I didn’t care. I just fell back asleep with a nice young man comforting me.

Danny stayed until 11:30. If I had known I wasn’t going to go to a meeting I thought I’d be going to, I wouldn’t have kicked him out so soon. I did homework, shuffled sleepily about, and then Kayla returned back to campus around 11:00 in the evening.

On Monday (of this week! Wow! Finally!) the impossible happened - not only did I wake up early enough to have breakfast, but I made it to my 10:00 lecture early! We didn’t do that much, either, so I was on my laptop, chatting with Danny while taking notes.

I had rehearsal again in the evening, and we gained three more people to our cast, two of which are Sarah’s ex-boyfriend, Brett, and his new girlfriend, Michelle. Brett is also in my German class, and he’s an ass. I don’t like him at all. In addition to this, two hours of my time was wasted because we didn’t cover any of my parts, and so I did about five minutes of work while the cast was taking another unnecessary break, and then I left early. I was not happy at all, so I had Sarah spread the news of my unhappiness and went to Botswin for hugs, because I know I can always get them there.

Not much happened on Tuesday, but during lunch at Woodworth, Sarah saw a guy sitting by himself, and she invited him to sit with us. His name is Eric, and he is a senior and an RA at Elliot, and he seemed really nice. We had a good conversation with him.

And then later, I get the news from Schmitty that he can’t attend the Morrissey concert with me. He’s known about it for two months - two! And then he tells me four days beforehand that he can’t go, for ridiculous reasons. His parents didn’t want him to go, and he couldn’t explain to him that I had already bought the pair of tickets, and that I was counting on getting that money for the ticket from him. I was upset, I was pissed. You DO NOT bail on a concert FOUR DAYS before it is to occur!! Rawr. Thank heavens Jack said that he was able to go, or else I would not only be out of the concert experience itself, but that money as well. At least we should have fun.

Wednesday night, a game of Signs was assembled, and we played that for a while. Danny had to leave at a quarter to 11:00, and I had a Humans vs. Zombies meeting at 11:15 at the art museum, and he just ended up walking me there before walking back to his dorm. The meeting was good, but then it started to rain, so we went to the Atrium to finish.

My crowd pilfered one of the big tables, but I didn’t get a seat, so I sat across from them at another table. Adam approached me and acted so melodramatically, as if he truly loved me and wanted me to be with him. I played it straight, saying that there was someone else. I think the best part was when he grabbed me tightly and said, “Leave him! Leave him and be with me!” I was doing great, too, at being serious, until Adam said, “Is it the sex? It’s all about the sex, isn’t it?!”

Thursday, Sarah and I weren’t really all that hungry for lunch. We stopped by La Follette to just grab cereal and milk to take back to the lounge to eat, and lo and behold, we ran into Eric again. We thought that was very odd that we met again, especially on a day we would normally go to Woodworth, and La Follette is so far away from Elliot...

We returned to the lounge with our food, and then I went to English. I had a paper due - probably the worst I’ve ever written, it feels - and an exam. After that, I came back to the lounge and lay on one of the couches with Teddy while watching Animal Planet with some others, saying goodbye to people as they left.

Chris’s mom came to pick him up, and we were able to meet her, and we went to dinner at Noyer with her. I briefly returned to the lounge, and Alex, Teddy, and Julie hadn’t really moved or changed that much in the hour and a half I was gone, but they did get food. I laughed about that, and petted Teddy’s head.

After class, Danny came over to the lounge and we went to my room to hang out. I also tried to get my belongings together in order to leave. I just spent most of my time with him, talking, and...we made it official.

So, now I have a boyfriend. That’s really weird to say, especially since, like I told Jack, “Those two words - ‘Sam’ and ‘boyfriend’ don’t go into the same sentence unless it is ‘Sam does NOT have a boyfriend.’” It’s really sudden, it seems, but I’m willing to try. I don’t like being lonely, and he’s a sweet guy.

My mom came to pick me up around 8:00, and I introduced her to Danny. I said goodbye to him, and then Mom and I went home, watched CSI and ER. That was strange. I actually don’t watch much television at all when I’m on campus.

Friday, I woke up early to go to the high school. I saw Mr. Nelson, and he escorted me to Ms. Douglas’s room. I was supposed to observe her at the time, but that was her prep hour, so I picked up my yearbook and just hung out with her in her room, catching up on things. She also helped me with my questions about the profession. I then observed her fourth hour class, which ran until 12:30.

I came home and had lunch with Mom, and then we went to one of the Halloween shops, but I wasn’t impressed. We stopped at Meijer and I was able to find suspenders and a black tie for my proposed Halloween outfit, and so all I need now is a black fedora. Then, on a whim, I decided I wanted to get my hair cut. I hadn’t had one in months, so I saw Heather, and she trimmed about three inches off and added layers. My hair is surprisingly still lengthy, but it’s slightly shorter and lighter.

My grandparents arrived here around 6:00, and so we’ve been talking and we had dinner and they played Yahtzee with Mom while I gathered some items I want to take back to campus, such as books and movies.

So, I need to get some sleep. Today, we’re going to walk around downtown Pendleton at the shops, and Vintage Collection is closing, sadly. Around 4:00, 4:30 at the latest, Jack and I will be on the long and winding way to Merrillville to see MORRISSEY!!

I can hardly contain myself, all over again!
