yuletide 2015 - dear author letter

Oct 23, 2015 14:12

Hello Yulegoater! First off, thank you so much for offering one of my fandoms! I hope you have fun writing whatever you're inspired to write - I'm super flexible, so go where the wind takes you. My squicks are pretty easy to avoid, so hopefully they don't give you much trouble. My letter is long and rambley - cause I like to ramble. lol. My list of likes has just sorta expanded over the years of writing DA letters :).

All of my fandoms are eligible for both Yuleporn and Misses Clause if that strikes your fancy.

    Red Eye - any

This is one of those movies that just won't let me go, and I feel that after ten years since it's release and I'm *still* loving it, it's likely never going to let me go. THE SHIP FEELS. Give me some Jackson/Lisa romance! They had insane chemistry, it was so strong that there has to be some unresolved issues for these two post-movies. I'd love to have a story explore that, how they meet up again later - maybe Jackson evaded prison or Lisa ends up working for Keefe, or they end up having to work together on something, whatever...and how do they react to each other? how do they (particularly Lisa) negotiate the fact that she's so attracted to someone she hates? How can she even begin to trust him again? Anything!

Or what if the attack on Keefe got called off and the two of them just spent a pleasant plane ride together - what would that be like? Could Jackson have a regular interaction with someone he's genuinely interested in. What would they talk about? Would they make a follow up date?

One thing I do have to add, this ship can easily fall into a domestic abuse type thing and I really don't like that. Please do not write Jackson as a dark, abusive, mean, manipulative asshole. I like to imagine that he plays a role for when he's working, but he's got some goodness in him. I mean, he's a dark person, so no hearts and flowers, but he's not an abusive one.

Kate Daniels - Ilona Andrews - any

I recently found my way to the Kate Daniels series...like three months ago recently. And boy did I fall hard for these books. OMG FEELS. Hahaha. As of yuletide's opening I can promise I'll have read up to (and including) 'Magic Slays' Book #5 and the Andrea/Raph & 1st of the Jim/Dali novellas, so I'd appreciate my story taking place within the canon up until this point. You're free to set it later in the series if you're okay with waiting for me to read it (though I'll for sure leave a thank you note on release day).

As for what I'd like, I ship Kate/Curran like no one's business. I'd love anything about them, something flirty set before they get together like with them getting really saucy with each other. Or something after they get together - feel free to get smutty as all hell here (see my likes section for kink prefs). Or something really romantic and adorable. I love when they always have each other's back but are still quite abrasive to each other. I love reading about Kate's adjustment to living at the Keep, adjusting to being the Alpha and learning all the politics and culture. So any more of that too.

I'm also really invested in the female friendships in the books, specifically of Kate, Andrea and Julie. So a lady-fic would be great. Them doing fun girly things or Andrea and Kate teaching Julie how to fight, or Kate adjusting to parenthood. Or something from Julie's POV about her time at the Keep, at going from being a street urchin to the adoptive daughter of the Pack alpha.

Fox and O'Hare - Janet Evanovich - any

I'm currently halfway through the latest book, but I'll be done it by the time reveals go live. I know it ends in a cliffhanger so if you'd like to go from there, I'd be down for that. I'll come back and expand on the cliffhanger once I'm done the book (which will definitely be by next week). Otherwise, I love the flirty dynamic between Kate and Nick though I wish the writers took more chances with them. I'd love to see Kate push back a bit more, be more aggressive and suggestive in her flirting - actually instigate it instead of always just reacting to Jake's advances.

I would also really love a character study piece - the writers continually let me down in this area, skipping over the parts where we actually get to know them. Like those 16 hours they were stuck in the cargo hold of the plane, or the whack of actual travel time they do together. Give me some honest conversation between them, flirty sure, but like genuine person talking to another person. I was really touched when Nick introduced Kate to his hacker lady (to help her hide should a con go wrong), it was a sign that he was falling in love with her. But I'd like to see some more scenes for that to happen - him telling her genuine stuff about himself, his past, ect. And her reluctantly starting to fall for him. Could also be a hoot to see Kate teach him how to use weapons.

Also smutty prons are good for this ship.

For a change of pace, I think something with Jake and Willy would be a *hoot*. Them talking shop, cars, living life, flirting, drinking, being silly.

Air - G Willow Wilson (comics) - any

I just reread the series, hence my delay in unlocking this letter haha. I'm literally open to anything for this series; it's odd structure and theme really lend its self to a variety of story options. Some ideas:

  • I'd love to see some more happy sexy times for Blythe and Zane. What other places/times do they travel to post-series? (there's so many possibilities here!) What fun and hijinks do they get up to? What's their life like as a mixed race couple in such a politically sensitive area of work? Fluffy and prons work for me, as does something more serious exploring Zayn's recovery from his sexual assault or Blyth's addiction.

  • You can tell when you read it that Amelia and Renee have a long history, so I'd love to read more about that. They're clearly friends and business partners, comfortable calling each other out when needed, but still supportive. I'd prefer a platonic story here, but if you want to go romantic, that's cool too. Or legit, anything about Amelia Earhart.

  • Who exactly is Mrs B?? What is her story? How did she end up working for Clearair? What are her feelings about becoming a hyper pilot? What's her first solo flight like?

  • If you're comfortable, I'd love to read more about the Heavy Metal Jihad, Mohammed, Mitra, Janey, et all. Their own backstories, how they ended up with the HMJ, their political thoughts and aspirations, what it's like to live as a socially-conscious terrorist cell, a low-key story about them just hanging out in the bunker on an off day, or a nice romance between two of the characters (no preference). Or perhaps post-series Zayn is feeling the need to go back to his brother, repair their relationship and Blythe goes with him.

  • Alternatively, if you'd like to write meta or an essay of some kind about the complexities of borders and race (or literally anything else this graphic novel made you think about) I'd absolutely love that too. I'm an academic nerd :P I'd also be open to some world-buidling gen fic, exploring the history of the device, the politics of installing hyperdrive across the world, the economic/political/social consequences of a such an advance in tech, ect.
