down, down, down

Where is my Eskimo Friend? On the way, apparently. A massive...mass of arctic air is on its way to Wisconsin, and it's supposed to snow a bit tonight. I feel like I should be more excited about this than I am, but I'm having an off week. Despite watching fun videos in class (Sesame Street in Swedish!) and eating the long-awaited salsa and making homemade applesauce...I appear to be in a funk. Perhaps it's the linguistics exam coming up. Perhaps it's lack of asphalt on my street. Or that they haven't turned on the heat in Van Hise. Or trying to learn word order in German while explaining it in Swedish. The strain of forcing my brain to switch between four languages in three hours twice a week? Or spending too much time reading all the terribly depressing and frightful news? It is probably a combination of these factors.

So instead I will think about how much fun it is (really!) to turn words from Proto-Scandinavian words to Common Scandinavian words. And the food that awaits me at the end of my long Wednesday. And that someday I can park on my street again (and that the city of Madison built a new curb around several old oak trees, rather than sacrifice the trees for a straight curb!). And that if it is warm nowhere else, at least it is cozy under my comforter in bed.
