Okay, Rak has to Geek out somewhere about a bunch of games and stuff coming out.
So, as the past week was chalk full of NEWS in various geeky circles, I have gone out and investigated and updated myself on other geeky areas, leading to a geeky overload I must share. This will have a lot of cuttext. Why? Because I feel like it.
The Nintendo 3DS - So my parents gave me a certain level of grief I am buying a new console. Which they do every time I use some portion of my money working for UPS to buy a new console. Now, granted, they do not understand why I need to buy a new console, they believe that technology stands still and that cell phones that flip are the latest technology and these new fangled touch screen mabobs are a passing fad. Even my step-dad who is GOOD WITH TECH.
I have pointed out that they didn't get me anything for Christmas and that settled the matter. They point to half my new computer and I point to they didn't get me anything for my birthday either. Anyway I am SO EXCITED for a new DS system, one with enough changes to make it worth while. I don't care how dumb I will look playing AR games upstairs on the kitchen counter shooting at invisible targets or stuff like that. I don't even care about the 3D in the 3DS, that's just a nice bonus to ALL THE ADDITIONAL TECH IT HAS OTHERWISE. The current start game line-up is good, but given my lack of a job I will probably only start with SSFIV and Kid Icarus. OoT will have to wait, sad to say.
Playstation Portable 2 - Needs to be announced already. Supposedly it's set for within a week. But Sony is very shifty on this sorta thing. I await judgment until such time as I have more than leaked photos of poor quality and a billion different rendered fakes of it.
Dissidia Duodecim 012: Final Fantasy - IT GOT A RELEASE DATE! IN THE US, ONLY A FEW WEEKS AFTER THE JPN RELEASE! So a wait I thought would be 2-3 months is down to a nice easy less than a month, I am cool with that. I am not so cool if Dissidia shafts my two favorite titles with lower cast than the titles in the same system family as them. I speak of FFVI and FFIX who have yet to get new characters while IV, V, VII, VIII, X, XI, XII, and XIII have each gotten a new character. I will be very sad if I don't see someone join Terra and Zidane as fighters. AND ADDING ANOTHER CHARACTER, EVEN A SIMPLE ASSIST ONLY DLC BONUS FEATURE ONE, FROM VII DOES NOT HELP.
I will probably (sometime after) I've gotten settled in Dissidia 012 I'll hand off my Dissidia disc to a friend with a PSP without either. Why? Because Dissidia 012 has all the Dissidia storylines in the game already, upgraded to the new tech. Which is pretty neat. I am wondering if others aside Aerith will be made Assist only to help bolster t ranks in the game.
Final Fantasy Type-0 - This game. Has taken. Way. Too. Long. It was announced (under Final Fantasy Agito XIII) back at E3 2006, and I fell in love with it then. And I have waited. And waited. And waited... for this day, the name change doesn't bother me, the fact that it is still getting less press than Versus (despite Versus not having a release timeframe yet) doesn't bother me. The fact that there are still so many details yet to be answered does not bother me.
What bothers me is WHY, WHY THE LONG WAIT SQUEENIX, WHY!?
Oh, two UMDS? ...I guess that's a good reason. Because, that reason, makes me EVEN MORE PSYCHED for the game. The plot and make of the game is so huge that you need two discs. And I didn't even mention the new trailer. ...I guess I have now, THE NEW TRAILER! It's so dark and pretty and cruel, and the world seems so expansive and full. The cast really flow in the gameplay and it's all so... so... I want it now!
Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Versus XIII - I am watching these because they look very pretty, and if Versus sells well the new gameplay mechanics both it and Type-0 put in are probably going to push more by Squeenix and I do not mind that one bit. They look very solid. However I am wary of any Squeenix game announced the same year it will come out. As they are already advertising XIII-2 in the states and say it has a winter release date. ...a game in less than a year, how will that work out!? And it seems Versus is pushing back like Type-0, we won't see it till next year!? Come on Squeenix, what up with that?
Kingdom Hearts BBS2, Dream Drop Distance, and 3 - So another SURPRISE from Squeenix, the secret ending to BBSFM got found in record time. Now we get a brand new KH title that... is still a prequel, possibly a Rashoman (Reverse/Rebirth for those more into KH than old films) to KH1. Bridging the 10 year gap between huge BBS spoilers and KH1. ...or it happens during KH1... or it happens during KH2, I saw some ORG in that trailer! Obviously this game will make as much sense as any other in the series, I'm sure. *liiiiiinefaaaaace*
Dream Drop Distance seems to be taking full advantage of the 3DS's upgraded power, graphics, and controls from the older DS models. The trailer was very pretty. It doesn't tell us all that much about the game, but its very pretty. It also proves once again Kairi is unloved by the game designers, you will never get to play her ever and just deal with it. I find this not at all amusing. I rather like the idea of Kairi not being left barefoot in the kitchen while the boys go and play. Aqua proves that we like girls that get action scenes. Give Kairi action scenes! COME ON!
Kingdom Hearts 3 is the new Duke Nukem. It'll be made sometime in 2024 if we never speak of it again until that time it is released.
Marvel Comics: X-Dudes and Age of X - So on the one hand Marvel infuriates me with a new 'dark' idea with X-Men who were never heroes and are all grungy 90s anti-heroes/anti-villains of EVIL doing bad things for a good cause. Proving that they have made Ultimates far too happy as they must make more 'verses with really bad things. Not to mention 616 hasn't exactly been a rose filled fun path of frolicing with unicorns on rainbows in the sun. No, we need darker than the current set-up.
...Okay okay Basilisk's mask is cool, and he looks way better than Cyclops, and Hellion with telekinetic cyborg hands is really awesome. The only thing missing is that everyone in Age of X needs a grizzled manly stubblebeard and they would be Grimdark from XI to the extreme. Also Pixie is now Pixie from Monster Rancher, just she goes by Nightmare now and STOP IT MARVEL, STOP MESSING HER UP, HAVE SQUIRREL GIRL SHOW UP AND BEAT SOME HAPPINESS INTO THE NEW X-MEN CAST PLEASE.
Now then, on the other hand during a new 4 shot of adventures of heroic heroism in this new "Heroic Age" Marvel is sporting we get X-Dudes. Which is just Santo and Vic being adorable derpheaded heroes running around OLD SCHOOL. Santo's 'mask' is a hockey mask (with a fake mustache under it), and he has a pair of WOODEN baseball bats as weapons strapped to his back (which is weird as he has no shirt on, nor any straps keeping them there, and he never uses them). So he is definitely going Casey Jones on this plot which is GREAT.
Young Justice - So far I like it, definitely up there with the old DC Animated Universe, and I like it better than Teen Titans cartoon. Will watch more.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: FTW - So it looks like the twitter leak is on the money, and the last two in the roster are Sentinel and the zombie girl from Darkstalkers. It isn't a bad roster, I guess. I hope that huge fan outcry gets back Megaman Classic or Roll to the roster as DLC. Since my Megaman fan is upset by only two characters. I guess from the current roster my first blush picks for a playable team are X-23, Zero, and Deadpool. However its still a game on a console I don't own and I still don't have a proper Arcade stick to play it on. So I gotta fix that first.
