8:30. My alarm went off, startling us awake. I heard Nathan say, "uh, what time is church again?" Oh crap...
I don't know what I was thinking last night... obviously I wasn't. Because church starts at 9. And we have to be there at 8:45 for prelude.
Needless to say, I got ready very, very fast. And we somehow got there by 8:50, and the choir was still practicing, so I doubt anybody even noticed we were late at all. All I can say is I am so very glad I straightened my hair yesterday so that it still looked good enough that I didn't have to wash it... Otherwise there was no way in heck we would have been on time. Unfortunately, all I got to eat was two bites of bagel.
Anyway, on with the adventure. During the opening song, the air conditioning kicked on, rustling my pages. No problem, I gave a little blow of air and settled them down again. Then on the last two lines of the last verse, whoosh! and it turned over. Luckily it was "Now Let Us Rejoice", which I pretty much know by heart, or at least well enough to muddle my way through it without it sounding too awful, so it wasn't too bad... The rest of the music went without a hitch, thankfully.
Then I got to sub for the primary pianist. She called me yesterday afternoon when I was hiking Stewart Falls up by Mt. Timp (which, incidentally, is a very pretty hike, and not too difficult - about 4 miles round trip, but not terribly strenuous). I didn't get any of the songs though, nor did I really have time to practice, so I figured I'd just wing it... the first 3 songs we played I'd never heard of, ever. It was pretty exciting. I got lots of sight reading in. It wasn't too bad, actually, I just thought it was kind of funny by the end... and we did sing a few that I knew, so it turned out all right. I'm doing it again next week, but this time I gave my email address to the chorister and told her to send me any she wanted me to practice. :P If we're lucky, I actually will practice. But we'll see.
