At least I didn't die...

Well.  The car I drive can go 294 miles before running out of gas.  Pretty impressive, eh?

I wish I'd been able to find that out some other way than actually running out of gas... in an intersection... at dusk... by myself.

To be perfectly fair, it wasn't a busy intersection, and all I ended up having to do to get a little assistance to move the car was get out, lean against the car door, and pout, and about 30 seconds later a young man stopped and offered to help.  (Now that I think about it, it was rather flattering how quickly that worked.)  So he pushed the car into a parking lot while I steered, and then my dad came and took control of the situation... (Hooray for cell phones!)

Once we got a gallon of gas in our spare gas can, we brought it back to the car and then had an interesting dilemma... no pour spout on the can, and no funnel.  However, this was easily solved.  I (luckily) had 3 weeks worth of paper plates in the back seat of the car (leftover from breakfast... I don't see the point in throwing one away every day when I can stack them up and throw a whole bunch away at once), and one of those worked well enough as a funnel-like solution.

And then, against all rhyme and reason, the car still wouldn't start.  *Sigh*  All that trouble of getting gas and figuring out how to get it in the tank, the discomfort of having gasoline spilled on my leopard print flip flop, etc, and the blasted car didn't even have the decency to behave.  So I got another fun life lesson: how to get your car towed... and the poor thing is now sitting in the lonely parking lot of our favorite auto repair shop, all by itself.  And I have no car to drive to work tomorrow.  :(

And I didn't get dinner until 9:30.

But at least I didn't die.
