Yes yes, I know, I've been quiet for a while. Life has been busy, which is generally a good thing although as usual social things are running in cycles .. got a very quiet couple of weeks at the moment accelerating quickly into silly levels of busyness again. August remains unplanned.
Reasons for writing no. 1: a revelation
Having been a loyal toaster user for years I today found myself using the grill (incident with disintegrating bagel and toaster, don't ask). And it DOES taste better off the grill. Takes a bit more effort, mind, but the rumours are true.
Reasons for writing no. 2: songs that sound more sinister when you listen to them carefully. For some reason my brain put this together on the drive home last night...
1. Luka - Suzanne Vega (obvious)
2. Stand - Jewel Kilcher (bouncy song that gets played in shopping malls, but listen to the words, it's about domestic violence)
3. Don't Stand So Close To Me - The Police (teacher/student dodgyness)
4. Kody - Matchbox 20 (I keep wondering if Kody is still alive of whether this guy is paranoid about being tracked down by a ghost)
5. Save Me I'm Yours - Gene. (Don't ask me why, this is just instinctive, but I can't work out if the protagonist is in love or insane)
No. 3 ....
Aside from that, thankfully everyone I know is safe after last Thursday, and it was great to see London immediately give the finger to whoever it is that was responsible, and get right back to normal. The number 30 bus resumed running that afternoon, and the Tube (apart from certain tunnels) resumed the next morning. Makes ya proud. Most inspiring sight was the video feed on Sky of paramedics running into Kings Cross ... by that time I'm pretty sure they'd have had no idea what had been let off in there, yet in they went, no hesitation. Frankly, incredible.
