It all began on Friday.

'twas a late, lonely night at the office. Trying to explain how a Mortal Kombat style kick worked (you know, the back+highkick thing), I athletically placed an empty Bisleri bottle on the wall of Merril's cubicle, took a grip on Sumit's desk, and flew into Le Kick. Result? Bottle flew off perfectly, and I'd be rather smug about it all if I hadn't underestimated the need for pivot room. My chest thudded noisily into my cubicle wall during the follow-through, and while in response to oh.my.god.are.you.okays I instinctively (and embarrasedly) grinned, it hurt like 'ell. Then came Friday night partying, and getting home at five in the am.

Later, when shirt was peeled off, things looked purple and bruised, and hurt. So went and saw doc and got chest xray and was told that I hadn't fractured my ribs after all. Glory be. Soft-muscle rupture or something. Am now back at office and on painkillers -- Lindsay suggested calling in sick declaring typing a strain. In hindsight, that might not have been such a bad plan.

Anyway, on to cheerier things. This was my discovery of the day: Seth MacFarlane, Family Guy creator and voice-man, talking to Harvard's class of 2006. While the funny quotient dips considerably from time to time, I like how nervous he is, a geek incredulous of his own spotlight, who can't believe the laughs he's getting. By the way, if you haven't watched FG yet, you disgust me.

For those of you far removed from your television sets but still in the mood for FIFA, those friendly folk at Wired detail what you need to do to watch the games online -- for free.

And finally, Slate got a bunch of talented artists to pulpify classic literature. The results are very neat, inspiring yet another reread of Alice.
