Okay. I still have to work out the details, but I know what my Masters thesis topic will be.
It's not going to be a big surprise, unless I can actually pull off some of the things I have planned for it. ::is being secretive and cryptic:: ::evil laughter::
I'm going to write my thesis on Jrock - How Western music, both classical and popular, has influenced it and how the Japanese have turned it into an art form known as Visual Kei.
Things I can involve with this:
Rock musicians with classical backgrounds: Yoshiki, Gackt, Sugizo, Mana (more when I can find them!)
The birth of Visual Kei: KISS's influence on X Japan's members
Extasy Records: The 90s Vis-kei (Luna Sea, Malice Mizer, etc.)
A genre of style, not music: Modern Vis-kei bands (Kagrra,, Vidoll, Gazette, Moi dix Mois, D'espairs Ray, Phantasmagoria, girugamesh)
"Rock and Roll is Not Dead": Miyavi and a return to the roots of rock
Touring in the West: Dir en grey, Jrock Revolution Festival
Now THAT'S something I'd enjoy researching and writing a 50+ page paper on!!!!
