Destruction Of Another World Nightmare

Nov 06, 2009 00:26

I was on another planet with friends. This was a planet of vast oceans and completely barren, rocky terrain. We had the power of flight. There was an atmosphere, but whatever starlight there was distant, cold, and dark.

The destruction came on the horizon, and that's where the image was throughout my dream. Seismic activity ruptured the ground, red hot flames danced in the resulting fissures, and the cloudy, lightning-filled sky turned blood red. With a thunderous roar, this devastation grew ever nearer. We were forced to flee.

We flew over the waters and over the earth. The journey was endless and tiring. We looked over our shoulders, and still the doomed sky followed us. Finally, we outdistanced it and were able to rest. We set up a paltry camp on the cold surface and slept. We awoke to find that death was almost upon us again. We flew again away from the creeping apocalypse. I remember physical exhaustion and the impression of unending futility in our flight.

This skyline that was chasing us from the east looked something like the Mordor of the Lord Of The Rings films. In physical effects it was perhaps akin to the "Nothing" of the film version of Neverending Story.

We were able to rest again for a while, and I awoke to find that this time the menacing horizon was at our front. It didn't make sense. I assumed we must have reversed our direction without realizing it in our exhaustion when we passed out the night before for the brief respite, so we took off flying the other direction. Dread overcame me as I realized shortly into our flight that before us was the horizon that had been chasing us all along. We were going back the way we came, and the destruction now trapped us and moved toward us from both the west and the east sides. There was nowhere else to go.

We stopped flying, sat on the cold ground, shared hushed conversation, watched and listened as the vast earthquakes, storms, and fires approached, and waited for our deaths.

I woke up scared out of my mind.
