Blackberry Bane Brickbroken

I think I gave the reasons for the acquisition of my Blackberry just over a year ago. It was relatively inexpensive with the upgrade I was due, and it was the only phone immediately available with separate ports enabling headphone use while recharging. I have almost nothing but regret for this particular gadget. The reasons are plentiful.

The keys are far too easy to accidentally mash.

The OS is like Windows. It crashes frequently with no logic.

The reception is terrible. I drop calls far too often. I realize this is partially due to my lacking provider (AT&T), but I've used other AT&T phones in the same places, and they are much more reliable.

Whatever bells and whistles it does have I almost never use. I don't need (or want) it for email. I've used the internet service in the name of emergencies or boredom on occasion; I'm probably charged a ridiculous amount of money for that.

And now - as of about a week ago - the trackball has completely lost its ability to roll right. This of course happened in the middle of a Brickbreaker game. Brickbreaker is one of the few positive aspects of the Blackberry, but I'm confident there are phones with far superior free games. There was a period of a few hours today in which the trackball inexplicably regained its ability to roll right, but that passed. My ad hoc solution to this problem is to scroll down and then quickly move the trackball in an upward-diagonal-left direction. It usually takes at least a few attempts, but this can move my cursor to the right column of icons.

I'm going to tough it out for now. The budget is tight, and I doubt that I can find a phone that fulfills exactly what I want with little or no additional features. For the record, though, it would be difficult for me to give a more negative review of the Blackberry.
