Galen Faedraught
http://rohan.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Elf (Just switch the gray skin and dark hair to green tones, and it's Galen and his sister.)
Galen and Cercile Faedraught, twins, were born to a Cymrillian trade supervisor, who served the nation in the capacity of a customs agent, tax investigator, and, on occasion, as a spy on neighboring trade partners. His father recently retired upon Galen and Cercile graduating from their apprenticeships as sorcerers. Their mother is a renowned potter in Cymrill, and often does business with the upper crust of elven society.
GALEN:
Galen has taken on various contracts while looking for a more permanent arrangement. His most recent contract is just about to end. He has been working for one of his father’s old contacts, escorting trade caravans between Cymrill and the port city of Andurin. While there hasn’t been a great deal of action on any of the trips, Galen has made it a point to gather valuable contacts along the way, and considers this arrangement to have been very profitable. He is considering establishing his own trade caravan, transporting magical wares between the cities in the area. Before approaching the coin house for the necessary start-up funds, he intends to look for work escorting caravans to other destinations.
Galen has worked with his mother in her shop, and has mastered Earth and Fire magics fairly well, in assisting her with her work in the kiln’s workshop. Over time, his specialty has become making various ornamental ceramic armors which adorn many homes in Cymril. He wears a set that he has designed himself, which looks as much like a salmon’s scales as is possible.
Galen is proficient in the use of the bow, longsword, and fighting knives. His preference is to use the bow, igniting the tips of the arrows with magic before firing, provided there is no risk of forest fires.
Galen is very formal. His manners regularly serve him well in elven society; right up to the point where he has to deal with anyone from the poorer echelons of the elven nation. Then, quite regularly, he is viewed as rude, condescending, and a bit of a prig. He is aware of the failing, but simply doesn’t regard it as an issue. After all, it isn’t his fault that the poor don’t understand the proper ways to behave. If one wishes to make their way in life, and be profitable in the process, there are certain methods, traditions, and attitudes that must be maintained.
Galen has two distinct weaknesses.
The first is his connection with his sister. Having a strong connection with his twin can sometimes be distressful. He has found himself knowing things about her that a brother is generally uncomfortable in even thinking about. He loves her dearly, and is very protective of her, much to her annoyance (as well as the annoyance of several suitors).
His second weakness is his mother. He grew up very much a mother’s boy, due to his father being away so often. He has worked closely with her throughout his life, first learning to be a potter, and recently assisting her between contracts with the store. She is currently in good health, but is thinking about retiring. She would like to leave the store to him, but he doesn’t want such a stationary lifestyle. He has been avoiding the issue for quite some time now.
CERCILE:
Cercile, with her specialty being magical investigation and identification, has gone to work in her father’s old office, addressing various concerns by the Cymrillian government related to the illegal import and export of magical devices, materials, and creatures. She specializes in creatures, and has managed to obtain special dispensation to keep a few “pets” which were confiscated in smuggling busts.
Cercile misses her brother a great deal while he is on the road dealing with his current contract, and is in favor of him taking over their mother’s shop. However, she knows he would not be happy doing so. At least, not now. So she encourages him to get the wanderlust out of his system by taking the safest contracts she secretly steers in his direction.
Cercile is currently on special assignment in a small village outside of Cymril; which tips have indicated is a breach point for smuggling operations coming in from Lake Zephyr. She is posing as a courier in one of the state offices in the area.
INTENT:
My intent is to begin the game playing Galen. Hopefully, everything works out and he ends up being the main character played. However, if needed, I will switch to Cercile in order to:
• Bring a different skills-set to the group;
• Play in a more city-based campaign;
• Avenge Galen; or,
• Be useful to the GM as she tries to manage the campaign.
